Columbia 1000 word SoP

I wrote a 2500 word and 2000 word SoP for two of my schools, but now Columbia wants a 1000 word SoP and I'm not sure what to include and what to leave out. Anthropology PhD. Anyone have any tips, or is anyone willing to share a Columbia SoP they wrote?

You may include the same things, just in a more concise way. If there are some hooks and embellishments in your longer SOP, they must be the first to go. Make sure that you leave only pertinent information. It's hard to tell more without actually seeing your SOP.

I had SOPs ranging from 500 to 1900 words, according to what the application required. The shorter the SOP was, I tended to cut and condense my background and qualifications. I gave more words to my research interests and to the faculty I wanted to study with. I also became a master at cutting extraneous words! I also did the Columbia SOP as one of my schools. Fire away, though I probably won't get it back till Sunday. I also did an application to Chicago. Sounds as though we are looking at the same schools in different fields!
