  1. I would suggest sending an email to their tech support - I mean of the ApplyYourself network. I am sure there is a link somewhere there for reporting problems.
  2. Hm, if you really want to network - big conferences is the best way to go.
  3. I think it is less common to contact professors if you are applying to a Masters program - but you can definitely try. It cannot hurt you and who knows - if your interests will match perfectly those of some faculty member, it can help a lot!
  4. I am using AT&T. I am an international student and I was told that my cell phone would not work with US sim cards. However, it works so I did not have to buy a new one - which is awesome. There is a chance that your iPhone with work with ATT's sim. I was told, actually, that iPhones usually do work with American sims, no matter where they were bought. I give no guarantee but there is hope If it does not work though you will have to buy a local cell phone. And most probably you will not be able to use a contract because you have no credit history in the US so you would have to deal with deposit. And deposits are huge here. ATT wants 500 bucks! If you want to use your iPhone with American sim card, Verizon is out of the question because they have no sim cards at all. So go to an ATT office and ask them to try putting their sim card in your iPhone. If it works - you are lucky Then you can use their unlimited prepaid plan (no contact) which is 50 bucks a month for unlimited talking, texting and data (internet), which is not a bad deal compared with other plans that are out there. If you have more questions, feel free to ask
  5. Do remind the professor about your draft - who knows may be for some reasons your email got lost of fallen into Spam folder. Send the professor another email. Good luck!
  6. I think having an account there cannot hurt. And hopefully with time more people will join and using Academia.edu will make more sense. I have not uploaded any articles, though.
  7. Finally in the US!

Welcome! [Even though I'm just here a few days before you;)]

  8. I have not been in this situation but I've been at a port of entry in the airport. I believe - it will be the same thing. If anything can be different, it will be forms that they will give you to fill in. All documents that you are bringing will probably be the same as in the airport. After all, why should they be different?
  9. If you mean me (I am Strangefox ) - sure! I am waiting for your message!
  10. This is terrible By the way, this professor is American, right? I mean, in different cultures "private space" is different. May be he is, like, Italian, - you know they stand closer to each other and I believe they can touch their interlocutor in a friendly manner from time to time just because it's a norm in their culture. Just an idea... As I've said, I am sure one week will fly by so quickly that you won't even notice that! I am sure it is not so! I am sure you are a smart person and THAT is why you have received this internship. Don't let this situation lead you to question your abilities as an academic!!
  11. I am very sorry it is happening with me. But you write that you need to "just hold out one more week". One week will pass very quickly! IF it escalates (but may be it won't) then you can confront him, I guess. But I am almost sure it won't, don't know why, may be I am an optimist Seriously, one week! It cannot be that bad. Meanwhile, concentrate on your work and don't say a thing. Most probably you won't have to. But... without any details about what is really going on it's hard to say whether he is really harassing you or not. May be it's your negative experience that makes you too suspicious. Look on the bright side. It's only one week left and then you will have a reference letter from a star prof! You will have great experience after doing this internship. I think that is totally awesome! Hold on there and good luck!!
  12. First, right now they might be busy having a holiday May be they are even out of town, travelling somewhere. Second, your email might have be caught by anti-spam software. Third, they might have missed it. Fourth, they wanted to respond but forgot. After two weeks of waiting, I believe you can safely send a follow-up letter. Something along the lines of: "X weeks ago I sent you an email but unfortunately have not received any reply. My message might have got lost, so I am sending it again." Good luck! Don't give up
  13. It depends. I wrote sort of a title for my research project. You can write something that reflects your academic interests. That should catch a prof's eye.
  14. I contacted one POI in almost every school. First, because of the nature of my research topic. It's rather narrow, I mean. Second, if one person of those who could potentially be my advisors answered that yes, he/she would be interested in mentoring me, I did not contact others. I figured, I will apply to this school anyway. May be it was not such a good idea, may be I should have contacted every possible advisor. But I did what I did and it turned out fine. So in your case I would start with a person whose interests fit yours most in each school. And you can easily send 10 emails, to ten people in ten schools, at once. And wait for results. Then act accordingly. If you want to contact all people in your schools, you could a) first send an email to a POI who's the best fit and then, after he/she replies, contact other POIs in that school one by one, each time mentioning those whom you have already contacted. b ) You can send letters to all POIs in each school at once, mentioning all other people whom you are contacting. I personally would prefer (a) because with (b ) you may look desperate too some profs, or sending letters at random like you don't know what you are doing (on the other hand, if you explain in you emails who else you are contacting they probably will not think that because you will prove that you are systematic)... Good luck!
  15. First, it's an illusion Everybody who is applying feels uncertain of their skills and qualifications But if you do your best and choose schools to apply wisely, you will get in! Can you apply to schools before you complete my Master's? You certainly can! A lot of people here do it this way. I don't know how they order transcripts, though... But you can ask about that on the Applications board. On the same board you can read the first thread (it's pinned). There I have described how I, personally, have started looking for schools
  16. I've got this info from The Grad Cafe Last year when I was applying I read lots of old threads here. There were threads about contacting professors and several people confirmed that you don't normally contact professors if your field is English. May be it works for some other humanities as well - but they talked only about English. You can search for these threads on this board and if you don't find them, I believe you can start another thread dedicated to this issue. May be some current English students will answer your questions better. Good luck!
  17. So, you guys who have just arrived to the US, can you add something about a Port of Entry? Everything went smooth for you there? Were you asked to show any documents not yet listed in this thread?
