I hope you'd get another interview from NYU too, which is also my top choice after Yale. Yale's breaking the 25 interviewees to some 4, 5 finalists; so it goes without saying that I wouldn't come out of stress until I officially hear back from them. I hope the result wouldn't be the same as Brown or even the wait-list that sucks. I'd love to get in NYU but I personally don't think I could get in since it's one of the most competitive schools. To me, Yale comes even before NYU. Do you have any idea about UPenn? you've applied to, haven't you? I was also officially rejected from Brown Hello Persiandoc, congratulations for the Yale interviews. No, nothing from any of them. NYU came out with results last year end of February, CUNY is known to be slow and Columbia, the king of slow, only got back to people in March. I got the offer at Davis and interviews at Rutgers, and Duke this week. Got officially rejected from Brown, and I guess unofficially from Yale. Duke and NYU are my top choices. Even an important big name of them did look over my SOP before I officially submitted my dossier and he said that was superb and one of the best ever. Yet, the notification came along as a bold rejection! I hope the contrary would apply to your Stanford's application! I don't know why shouldn't you expect so? As far as I've checked the results page, Stanford has not started their notifications yet. I've not applied to Stanford but I do do hope you'd get in if that is your program of choice. I am afraid tough the UC system has hardly any funding available, especially not for international students. We shall see. Congratulations for getting inn. Congratulations to you too! I'd give either JoAnna or the International Office a call - you're probably better aligned to some of the diversity/regional funding than I am, and it's definitely worth checking out extramurals. That said I also hear it's a good year for international applicants to the department; YMMV. I certainly don't think they're in the business of making offers which are obviously going to be financially unviable - if nothing else, having large numbers of refused places makes the department look bad There's a lot of variation between UC campuses, FWIW - UCSC basically told me the dept. couldn't fund out-of-state fees from block grant; Cal (Berkeley) don't make offers without 5 yrs guaranteed. I know people who took unfunded places at Davis and then got funding during the year; they were California residents, though, which really is a different deal. Good luck! Are you a sociocultural anthro? This. I contacted about 3-4 faculty there; one answered, to say she couldn't meet but good luck (this was via an introduction from one of her grad students). I then met her, and another two, at a seminar there; they subsequently didn't answer emails. Honestly, I think they just don't interact that much with applicants. I also wanted to work with B. Good. I am sure he wouldn't take up two advisees this year, Woah, I just got accepted to Harvard. I am going to work with Dr. Good to study the implications of being a sports fan on national identity. I didn't think I would get it because my gpa from Sacramento state was only 2.96. Congrats to those with significantly positive advances in their application process. I've been trolling this thread frequently enough that I finally decided to make an account and post. This week brought me rejections from Duke and Brown....nor have I heard any sort of interview-esque news from Yale, Emory, or Northwestern. I'm assuming Yale and Emory are putting me in the reject pile, but I was wondering if anyone knows anymore about Northwestern. I saw two people have received interview requests. Does that make any future for me at Northwestern increasingly hopeless as well??? :-( Would be a shame. As an Africanist, Northwestern was one of my top top choices, and I love the idea of their interdisciplinary clusters. Not sure if anyone else has applied to Virginia, but I also received an e-mail from the departmental grad admissions chair asking me to set up a phone chat this weekend. Absolutely no idea. Had the interview with Rutgers yesterday. Pretty informal as a whole. Some of the questions they asked were: Tell us about your research and how you would go about doing it (methodology etc.)? Why do you want to come to Rutgers? Have you got teaching experience?. Basically what other threats on Grad Cafe have said. If you prepare for an interview, know thyself and know them! Good luck to anybody that's still going through interviews. anthro.fish Posted February 8, 2011 Share Posted February 8, 2011 Sociocultural Anthropology for sure, but I hope to research indigenous museums (mainly NW Coast) - diagram the issues involved . . . pitfalls, negative and positive social and economic impacts . . . as well as the process of using the museum for cultural activities and (at the same time) using it as a venue to present their culture to the outside world. Getting accepted to Oxford is fantastic and exciting, but meaningless unless funding comes my way. Fingers tightly intertwined. I don't know why shouldn't you expect so? I had great email communications with three professors out there and a half hour phone call with one of them. They were very excited and even said that they would try to get me in. Ouch. I have no idea about the programs at Yale or Harvard. I decided to apply to schools (or not) based solely on the presence (or lack thereof) of professors who are interested in Northwest Coast Natives, or at least indigenous Arctic peoples. You'd be surprised (or at least I was) to find out how very few programs have professors who are familiar with that region. Of course, schools in the Northwest (i.e. U of Oregon, Portland State, U of Washington) have specialists in these fields, but I was hoping to get into a more highly ranked school to improve my employability chances following graduation.
