  1. Here's the story, I've applied to PhD anthro and I've been accepted to NYU at the end. My brother applied to LLM McGill but he doesn't believe in this website. He's so unnerved these days so I decided to get some info on his behalf because unlike him I DO rely on the majority of the info coming from these forums and I do appreciate their coordinators and all of the applications sharing their info. I truly appreciate your time. Will keep you updated,
  2. Hi there, Thanks for your posting. Foremost congrats on your acceptance, that's wonderful. When did you hear your notification and what was the method of notification? Do you think no news is bad news or what? All the best
  3. Hi everyone, Any words from McGill LLM degree? They're getting my shit together.
  4. Hi sweetheart, Plz excuse my biting straightforwardness. I hate to put it this way but I think you should accept your other offers. As far as I've been informed all the admits and waitlists were notified unofficially a couple of weeks ago and officially last week. I've not heard a word from Michigan but that's certainly a rejection, Wish you good luck,
  5. Bonjour mon ami(e) Parisien(ne), It's so funny that we almost applied to the same roster of schools. Tell me where you got accepted to. You know, neither of your conjectures is right! I have neither sixth sense or really good insider's info. I was just in very good contact with a couple of scholars like many other applicants. I'm still not sure if decisions are made or what! I already wrote to my POI and withdrew my application for only one reason. I thought that would be ethically so wrong and inhumane for those who might be waitlisted if I'm admitted. Honestly, I thought I could get in JHU but I may be wrong. I was so out-stressed during the waitlist era and when I saw our Zoe (our friend)'s post, I decided to withdraw my application quickly. You have no idea Zoe how much I'd be happy if you get in JHU since you already have no other offers. I also didn't like to turn down an offer after it's given to me since I kinda felt committed to my POI at JHU. I'm apparently one very rare applicant who gets content if admitted to only one of their top choices. I was so happy when I was rejected by Yale since I'd already decided to accept NYU's offer and the fact that Yale had always been my first choice was pressurizing me to death, how on earth I could turn down on my POI. We're almost at the end of this nervy application season and I wish good luck for all those who still wait! Love to all,
  6. Thank you Zoe! I'll be rooting for you, Do you have any offers already?
  7. Don't worry Zoe13 at all. I don't mean to be arrogant but I personally believe I'm going to be admitted. That's much too idiotic to consider myself as a reference but my gut feeling says you shouldn't begin to fret at this stage. Actually I planned on withdrawing my application before the decisions are made. I don't promise but I may spy some recondite info for you. Stay tuned, is my biggest advice to you. You'd hate me if you go back and review my posts before I got accepted to NYU. Fingers crossed on your JHU acceptance
  8. Hey friend, I'm very happy your MIT interviews went well. I'm so looking forward to hearing your offer of admission. If I were you, I'd prefer MIT to Chicago. It's a wonderful multifaceted program, We'll have champagne together, To our friend's success with MIT (cheers)
  9. Congrats on the waitlist offer. Not so sure if that helps but I've also been waitlisted but since I accepted my NYU's offer, I turned down my waitlist offer quickly. Actually both came in at the same time. Wish you'd get in off the waitlist soon!
  10. hey friend, just saw your NYU admit in the NYU forum. WOW! are you gonna accept your offer? You made my day mate! I already accepted my offer. Are you interested in exchanging emails, etc? If so, private message me, Are you based in NY? Looking forward to your post
  11. That is too kind of you! HOhohoho! I think we should have an urgent final meeting now. (LOL), Which inferno have you chosen after all? I think I only got one acceptance with handful of waitlists. I've also been waitlisted by Harvard too. The Ivy is kinda into waitlisting me and that's the biggest favor they can give to an anxiety-stricken Persian doctor (hahahaha) the conclusion of 2011 application season in my words: the biggest mistakes: to apply to Brown, UPenn, Michigan. The pity: not to apply to Duke, UNC, CH and BU. OMG: acceptance from NYU, waitlisted by Columbia. No way: rejected by Yale, waitlisted by CUNY. SO SO: waitlisted by Harvard and Princeton. Go to hell: now news from JHU yet! Let's party all night long: NYU and the consortium of metropolitan area!
  12. Hey mate, HAHAHAHA! Thanks for enjoying my stressed-out posts as your favorite passtime! You're so cute for God's sake, I just got my rejection from Yale. I'm happy (believe it or not) because I had already made my decision to get in NYU and I was not sure how to turn down my potential acceptance since it was always my first choice and I'd conveyed my ardor to my POI at Yale. I kinda felt this ethical encumbrance not to turn down Yale for NYU, Thanks the forces of nature I didn't get in Yale. I now only wait for JHU. However, I think I'm all set now. Let's get headed into NYU
  13. Hi anthros, I just received my rejections from UPenn and MIT/HASTS. I was quite sure of these two rejections. I just applied to UPenn in order to hook myself up close to NYC! I assume the clever decision makers got it hahahahaha Wish you all the best,
  14. Hi friend, How it like you're still not sure if waitlisted? If you're waitlisted, you should be happy they made offers to three only. Isn't it like the fewer the better?
  15. I totally agree with you. I am an MD and I got accepted to NYU last week. I also got some waitlist offers from top-tiered schools such as Columbia, Princeton and CUNY. I also got interview from Yale and I have yet to hear from them. I don't have a US degree and my GPA was decent but not ace. I imagine the strength of my application rests on my publishing and researching experiences as well as my medical background. I have no formal training in anthropology but I'm quite well read and familiar with modern medanthro literature. I gather the important factors for getting in a given program can be ranked as follows: 1. the compatibility of your interests (reflected in SOP), approaches and methodology with the faculty (the more faculty members it targets, the greater chances you'd stand) 2. prior correspondence with the faculty (the more the better) 3. SOP (that would explain your preparation to do a PhD in anthro, how your background undergrad has urged you to go for anthro and why this program is the best for you) 4. Recs 5. GRE 6. GPA My recommendation is if you want to apply next year and you kinda have some limited time, invest your time on reading and SOP instead of GPA, GRE. Yet, do your best to achieve the cutoffs for GPA and GRE. If you can handle all of them at the same time, that will be perfect. Don't forget that SOP is the key application material as it weaves a lot of others together, Wish you good luck
  16. Oh mate, I'm really sorry to hear this. How did you find out you were rejected? I wish you'd be on the waitlist,
  17. Hi mate, You're somewhat right about that. My POI said they sent my name up to the GSAS and they've approved my name and admission but I still don't have my official letter and the related instructions whatsoever to accept my offer officially. I've been told I could get the letter by the end of this week. I'm not in rush actually as I'm also waiting to hear from Yale, Cheers,
  18. Hi mate, Please forgive my ignorance of your plans. I'm wondering why you lean towards an Mdiv while you wanna end up an MD or medical anthropologist. Don't you think your offer from Columbia would be really cool? Actually, I've been only offered admission from NYU so far and I have yet to hear from Yale. I will go either to NH or NY but I'll definitely come to Boston a lot since I have a lot of my friends at Harvard doing various degrees from clinical post-docs to anthro to residency. It's good to hang out with some of your oldies. You're also welcome to the community of Iranian medical rascals in Boston, LOL!
  19. Hey anthros, Just letting you know that I just turned down my Princeton's offer of waitlist.
  20. Hi Irishscientist, I just want to wish you the best of the bests for your Friday interview at MIT. I'll be rooting for you and don't forget you're the medanthro hero of this forum. I want you to take the revenge of all the waiting sufferers and those who have not been invited for the interview by your top-notch interview followed by a sweet acceptance, See you in NYC or Boston, Cheers,
  21. Hi mate, Thanks for sharing my joy! You have a lot of offers. Which one is your choice? I'd imagine that's WashU, isn't that? I'll be rooting for you anyways! I'm already quite positive you'd get in because you already have a lot of offers from top programs and I bet you have a strong and impressive application. Do you wanna pursue in medicine? I'm also an MD. I'd love to exchange thoughts with you and keep in touch on a long term basis. You're really a good pal, Keep us updated anyways!
  22. Hey lovely friends, I'm feeling for all of you. I was surprised to get the news in the morning. I was still in my bed checking emails on mobile. I got the tile good news and I told myself I'd have been waitlisted again and again. Fortunately my POI had the word of acceptance in the beginning of their email followed by details. I wish you'd get in particularly those who have missed their chances on other schools. Plz let me know if you ever get waitlisted. I got another email from CUNY announcing I was waitlisted. I declined it straight away for those who may still dream of getting in CUNY. I'll be sleeping on my NYU's offer and looking forward to hearing from Yale too. That would be the toughest decision I'll have to make if I'm admitted by Yale. That's the possibility anyway, that's why I'm telling you to keep me informed of your wait list offers. The good news is I'll have to decide quite immediately as I need to apply for my visa from outside Iran and that's a huge hassle! wish you all the best,
