What is Faye's program? I'm totally ignorant about it, however, she is one of my favorite scholars there where it comes to her previous work on ARTs and feminist anthro. I think you're into her media and film anthro work, aren't you? Don't accept your offer from Davis and make it to Rutgers or Duke hopefully, I've got scores of Syrian and Lebanese friends. A lot of them used to get in my med school to do their MDs. Unlike the always reserved and aloof Yemeni friends, the Syrian and Lebanese always rock. My Harvard's anthro friend always goes to the Syrian and Lebanese club there. Do you know O.D. from Harvard's medanthro? I've contacted him many times but never heard back from him. I also wanted one of the Yale's academics to put me in touch with him and he didn't reply either. I like his work, I'm also planning to improve my knowledge of colloquial arabic in the next six months. My favorite dialect and accent is that of Sham,

Hi Distant Wizard, any words from NYU? or Duke? Can you tell me about Princeton's stipend details? NYU has offered me 24k for 5 ys, plus the possibility of TAship from the second year to earn some extra money. cheers,
-
Habibi, Yes indeed! Thanks a lot for your lovely words. How about you? Did you hear from NYU? I wish we could meet up in person before we start grad studies. I'm likely to make it to Syria, Turkey and India sometime after Nowrooz. Have you ever been to Iran? You're most welcome to stay with us if you ever want to come. Fingers crossed you'd get in NYU too. We could work on Mid East with our mutual friend there, Did you hear from Columbia or CUNY?
-
Oh darling, we'll definitely meet up if I can get visa and end up there. I'll also give you a good treat at a luxurious restaurant, We'll certainly get in touch via emails,
-
Thank you very much indeed. Did you hear anything from them? Fingers crossed you'd be at least waitlisted even if you don't get accepted straight away! It means a lot to me if you could get in. I'll be waiting for Yale's final decision too. NYU's funding package is not that good for NYC that is hell of an expensive place,
-
Oh sweetheart! I'm so sorry to hear that. You have no idea how strongly I wanted you to get in UCB/UCSF. Yet, don't worry! You'll get in MIT fo sure. Be as charming as possible. Basically they want to make sure the interviewee is not a jerk, arrogant or load. Just be yourself and don't try to show up in your outfit, I mean, don't wear a trendy or showy outfit. Just be relaxed and humble and try to indirectly convey that MIT is your first choice. Don't feel so disappointed if you'd have to respond to their enquiry on other options. You can also tell them you had applied to Harvard basically to access MIT's faculty and sources as well coz you were aware you'd have the possibility of a lot of cross-registering. You're just great buddy. I'll be rooting for you. You also have Chicago as backup! I just got accepted by NYU and waitlisted by CUNY. I now have three waitlists. I'm gonna decline CUNY's waitlist offer to give space to the others, do keep me updated after you do you interview. Are you going to Cambridge? It's just better to do in-person interviews. You're gonna convince them you're the best in the most humble and pleasant manner, coz you're really the best fit for their program. I got rejected but based on the brief description of your project and interests, I am 100% sure you're the best of the bests, I'll be rooting for you, Cheers

Hi new mexico, thanks for your staying and supporting me emotionally from the very beginning of this tormenting waiting process. You know! I'M IN, I'M IN. another waitlist from CUNY but I'm in my second choice NYU, wahoooooooooooooo! la la la la la la la, I really forgot where you got in. I'd love to see you if I can succeed with my visa issuance as well and end up in NYC, keep in touch
-
Hey friends, WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I just got up in the morning and straight went to check my emails hopelessly. Guess what I got? I got admitted by NYU. (YIPPIE).................................... Let's party guys! I got another email from CUNY too. I've been again waitlisted by CUNY and I'm gonna decline it very soon. Any other admits from NYU or any waitlists from CUNY? Congrats on BU, UNM and other new acceptances! I think I'm gonna wait for Yale too, cheers,

Hahahaha! I burst out into laughter when I got your point as far as cohort's concerned. Yet, they still call it 2011 cohort! You should have applied to linguistic anthropology indeed!
-
Say something Irishscientist for heaven's sake! Are you in UCB or what? any words yet?
-
Yeah you're right! I love him. He's one of a kind. He picks me up from home almost everyday, we go to the pool, we hang out together and then we go to the gym. He also drops me at home late at night. He's so adorable and handsome of course (hahaha)
-
I wish we could both get in Columbia and I'll tell you the story of what I went through to apply to Columbia. It's quite interesting! But there's no room for that here, You got any idea how many would they take for SMS? I bet their cohort should be smaller than anthro,
-
That's what I love about this forum the most; you think you're not an outcast OCD kind of a person anymore! I wish we were all able to be in a real cafe together! Just imagine how wonderful it would have been!
-
You know what? I'm only hanging out with a very good friend of mine who's absolutely tolerant of my complaints from waitlists, rejections and waiting! Yet, he hates me when I drink and smoke to that extent! It's so funny how he's surprised when I outpace him in the swimming. He's also my trainer in the gym. Did you get the final decision on SMS? How many offers do you already have? Did you get an interview from Yale?
-
anyone in this forum heard anything from Columbia yet?
-
OMG! how can you be sociable during this time? That's amazing of you. I do smoke (keep it confidential but 2 packs a day) plus drink (don't ask about the quantity otherwise you'd hate me) and the most amazing of all work out, swim and run! I only communicate with 3 people! Don't prejudge at this level. I do love people but I'll make them hate me if I socialize with them these days. I think we should develop some defense mechanism instead of coping one because we're only bombarded by either rejection or waitlist. That is at least the case for me! definitely not for everyone!
-
I've been waitlisted by Columbia and Princeton and the fact that I'm at the top of the waitlist is like a big frustration. I have yet to hear from NYU and Yale. I gather I've been unofficially rejected by Michigan and Harvard. I am kinda sure I wouldn't get in UPenn. Yet, I am very hopeful about JHU and CUNY to a lesser degree, What about Davis? How is their funding package? Would you prefer Rutgers to Davis? Any idea where you're standing in the Duke's waiting list? I'm remembering Duke and NYU are your top choices. I wish you'd get in off the Duke's waitlist. The admits may decline their offers before April 15. I'll be rooting for you anyways!
-
Hi Irishscientist, I just saw a rejection from UCB medanthro in the results page. I'm holding my breath for you. Plz do keep us updated. I'm even nervous for you. I wish got in! Good luck
-
Hey bro, I actually share your suffering of the waitlist syndrome with myself. However, you're lucky to have offers from Rutgers and Davis. Did they offer you good funding packages? Have you heard of anything from NYU, Columbia, CUNY or Michigan yet? What is your status?
-
My gut feeling says that there is a serious fight in there over which applicant to take. I've not heard this from anyone but I could kinda tell! They were to make notifications much earlier, I'm dying of stress particularly when I know they'd take up only 6 (the cursed number) and I can predict I'd end up 7 if I'm lucky to the extreme. By the way, I hope your dream would come true,
-
Hey dude, I can't be much of help but just letting you know that I've been told exactly the same thing by Columbia. Fingers crossed we both get in! I was checking last year posts and I found a couple of lucky guys who got in off waitlist by end March. One seemed to be in seventh heaven once they got the news. It seems it was their last hope. Therefore, one never knows what would happen. Today I woke up deciding to be as optimistic as possible. We've had enough of stress and tension recently. Let's get stronger and let's be sure we'd get in. Do you have yet to hear from other schools than NW? Don't dare lose heart regarding other applications. NW is just wonderful. Once you could make it to their very short list, it means you still have chances from other ones. Sometimes you'd experience an acceptance from somewhere you never thought of getting in. I'll be rooting for you. I want you to keep playing with the rest of your cards as professionally as you did from the beginning of this damn applications season, Keep us posted anyways!
-
Hey, I just saw a rejection from BU in the results page. I wholeheartedly hope it's not you! Looking forward to celebrating your acceptance to BU, keep us updated plz
-
actually we didn't delve into the funding issues and their financial discourse recalled me of "les miserables". I wouldn't care about their funding package at all if it's in NYC. Well, if you succeed persuading Columbia/Princeton admits to decline their offers, I'd get in Columbia and you'd end up at NYU. So what should we do in the weekends of metropolitan area? "Shall we dance?" LOL!
-
welcome to the feast of sufferers, I missed my application to BU for petty reasons. They're amazing. I have no idea when they'd start their notifications but their deadline was sort of late comparing other tormenting schools. I keep my fingers crossed for you!
