mewtwo Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Hi, I'm just curious how much the GRE Verbal matters in admission to top schools. My GRE Quant. and AW are both good (800,6), but my Verbal is only 620 (89th percentile). Does anyone know if this will affect my chances at top CS programs? Thanks! mewtwo 1
MoJingly Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Em, 89th percentile is pretty dang good, just so you know.
newms Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Verbal GRE is not very important at all for CS as long as the score isn't terrible, and even then it might not be a problem. Your score is plenty good enough.
Awexome Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 620 isn't a bad score at all, especially considering you will be primarily competing with people for whom English is a foreign language. They basically won't consider it at all unless it's really bad, from what I understand.
BKMD Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 The general wisdom is that they don't care unless you do exceptionally poorly. I'm not sure why some schools even still require the GRE.
