Happy to be here Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 (edited) Dear Duke Sociology, About every week I get an email from you that reads in the subject line "Duke Graduate School Enrollment Services" or something wildly important sounding. You tell me that you've received my transcripts, my GRE scores, my letters of recommendation, other documents, and that you're still processing my application. Why do you do this? I think it is "just to be sure" or something like that. Hey, I'm fine with receiving an email saying, "We got all the crap you sent, so hang tight, because we're deciding whether or not to accept your sorry ass." But when you send this same email on a regular basis it makes me nervous. REALLY nervous. Every time I open my email and I see this one with its subject line staring back at me, my heart races, I get anxious, and then I find out the same thing you told me last week. Just go ahead and give me your rejection and stop teasing me with these emails. (seriously, 5-6 received already, I mean, WTF?) I hate you already and would rather be ambushed with a rejection during the appropriate freak out times (late Jan-mid Feb) than to get these every week. I swear, some office ass-clown thought this would make the applicants more comfortable, and the email probably would if received ONCE. Not weekly ever since mid December. Seriously, guys? Seriously? Just slap me in face, pull down my pants, and push me over into the mud already. Signed, Happy to be here, a 2011 Duke Sociology applicant. Thoughts? The only suggestion I have is to filter these kinds of emails. I use gmail and have grown accustomed to using the filtering option due to my weird email neuroses. You could mark them as read, or have them sent straight to your archive. Of course, you would run the risk of also having an important email marked as read, so you would need to tread carefully. Best of luck, my fellow soc of religion applicant!
Gradhorn Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I am a poli sci applicant at Duke going through the same thing. My iPhone cuts off the full subject line, so at random intervals I check emails on my phone to see "From: Duke Graduate School, Subject: Enrollment Stat...".
Happy to be here Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 Exactly! Aaaa! I hate that crap. And any kind of email filtering would just asking for trouble too. I hate everyone.
going crazy Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Totally! I absolutely hate those freaking e-mails!
Happy to be here Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) Anyone claiming the Duke admission that was just posted? Edited January 24, 2011 by Happy to be here
danseparc Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Anyone hear anything? Things have been oddly quiet regarding Duke... In previous years, they seem to have sent out letters of both acceptance and rejection at this point. I imagine they probably got a lot of applicants this year.

Their interview weekend is going on right now, so I imagine all that is happening this upcoming week?
CMcG Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I saw two posts on the Results page that were Duke acceptances, received on February 28. If that was you, I was wondering if that came about from the visit weekend and if you had a feel on whether more acceptances might be coming down the line? Just part of the futile search for answers.

deutschies Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Hi guys, I did not post that acceptance, but I did receive an acceptance email a few days ago from the director. I do not know if more are coming, but I suspect that if you were not selected as a finalist in February, you are most likely not in the running anymore. I know they invited all finalists to Duke for the weekend, and while I couldn't go because I'm living in Germany, I still had a phone interview. That said, I don't know what their deal is with waitlists. Hope this helps (though obviously I'm clueless as well!). I second that inquiry.

I think they probably were keeping a few of us on hold just in case without expecting the chance that they needed us to be high enough to pay for the visit. Oh well.
crock1255 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Yes! I was hoping someone would post, though apparently not enough to do it myself ha. But I'll be there in the fall... Anyone here attending in the Fall?
Catamount Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Awesome! I know of one other person attending this fall (a friend of a friend of my fiance), but that's about all. I'm dying to know the rest of our cohort!
