blackky Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Am coming to America for my masters in Geology, i have a first degree in geology already with a very good GPA and i scored high in my GRE. Am told by a friend that i will still have to do some undergraduate courses like American govt etc etc . That i must do some mandatory undergraduate courses before i can get a masters degree from any american university. pls can someone tell me is this true?
wtncffts Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I highly doubt that's true. Check your department requirements to make sure, but that doesn't sound like anything I've seen or heard. To my knowledge, there's no difference between international and domestic students in terms of course requirements.
waddle Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Am told by a friend that i will still have to do some undergraduate courses like American govt etc etc . I have never heard anything like this. At the most, you might need to take some undergraduate geology coursework, e.g. sedimentology, if you are lacking some background. But nothing at the intro-level.
katerific Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 No. All the grads who take undergraduate courses in my geology dept are taking upper division geology/biology/etc courses, not anything like american government. I do know international students who have to take english classes, but even then, those english classes are specifically designed for international graduate students (who hope to TA, in particular). I do know graduate students who take lower division classes not related to geology, but they do that for fun, not because they're required.
