Let me know what you all decide to do! For me it's not NYAA, but another school, and I'm in the same boat with the $ thing. I just don't know what to do. But I'm also waiting to hear from other schools.

I'm thinking of attending, yes...I was accepted too. I'm also afraid of the debt as well, even though they did offer a little $. I don't know how I'm going to do it, if I do decide to attend. It's my top choice so far, but I'm still waiting to hear from other schools!

I will wait and see what happens with everything, but i'm really excited b/c it was one of my top choices going in, so it seems very likely that is where I will end up... also for L333makes and savethewolves, I asked them about funding and hey said there are opportunities for everyone to have a TA and they have merit scholarships plus an association with a local art school that gives coordinator jobs to grad students and it pays really well apparently... looking forward to meeting you guys!!!! we need to message our names and a way to identify each other or plan a place to meet up...

Congrats!!!! Are you gonna go there??

oh you definitely need to call and update a phone number!!! Penn called and made notifications of acceptance today... several places have contacted people by phone!!! good Luck!!!

I'm relatively new posting here. I am anxiously awaiting to hear from RISD and Columbia about interviews...as well as from UPenn on final decisions. The thing is, my old phone died and I had to replace it with a new phone and completely new phone number this past week. Do you guys think it is worth updating with individual schools just in case?

congrats to those accepted and invited today!

hello all,

I am a newy!

I applied to Columbia, WashU and Yale. got rejected from Yale, got into WashU and waiting to hear from Columbia. I read in an earlier post on pg 56 that someone got a call from columbia. I am trying to figure out how accurate that person's post was. I kinda think it was a bs post but want to be sure before i assume. He also claimed he got into yale, saic among others. kinda find it strange because of the difference in program structures both faculty wise and student wise. No two programs are alike and i know for sure columbia and yale's program are like night and day.

Firstly, congrats to all who have had good news - well done! Just this minute finished a Skype interview with SAIC - it felt right, so I hope the feeling was mutual their end :) I was a little nervous to start, having 2 academics and 1 current grad student interviewing me, but after a short time I settled. I was prepared for every question and that is the key! Anticipate the questions and have your answers practiced and automatic. There's no real set format to the interview questions, as the conversation tends to dictate what questions are asked. The key ones are:

  • Why do you want to do an MFA, why with us, and why now
  • Do you have any questions (don't ask obvious questions - be more considered) Now's your chance to find out stuff - its about whether its a fit for you too!
  • What can you bring to the program
  • Who has influenced your work
  • What artists are you currently looking at
  • Discuss your work

So far now, I have been accepted to CCA and SFAI, and obviously I'll have to wait to hear about SAIC. Now the hard part - $......

Congratulation! My webadvisor still says application under review but my slideroom deadline has changed to 3/21/11. What does your slideroom deadline say?

Oddly enough, my slideroom deadlines says 3/22/11. Must be a typo.

I got an interview for Columbia's photo MFA, and I'm very excited but naturally also nervous. What kind of work should I bring? I was going to bring in my main portfolio I applied with, but I'm not sure it is important to show evidence of a concrete current direction. How much of the discussion do you think pertains to our work?

Any advice is helpful!

!!Good luck to everybody!!

Dude, yr asking a bunch of people who didn't even get interviews. Yr a full step ahead of all of us. We should be asking you how you landed an interview at the most competitive program in the states. Yr gonna do just fine. Congrats and good luck to you...

From a couple of interviews I did, and a whole bunch of advice I have been trying to collect. I would say the best is to be confident of the work that you do and how it blends in with the direction of the program. Best advice I was given " remember you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you" so, try to ask questions that really relate to the program and how those are meaningful.

I was told to bring my best pieces for the interviews and found myself only talking about 2 or 3 since the time was very limited.

I think interviews are more about the bigger direction your work is taking, less about each one of the pieces and more about your full body of work. Remember they have seen your portfolio already.

I made the mistake of not asking about specific faculty, don't make that mistake. Try and research them and ask at least one question regarding the faculty and their work.

I don't think I am a pro when it comes to interviewing, but that's what I have been told and seems to be working so far.

Get some rest and nail the interview, you already made it through the first part now show them face behind your work and how the individual can rock their program.

Hope this helps, and best of luck!

What is your discipline?

Found out I was admitted to CCA via web advisor tonight! I'm so happy but also concerned about how I'm going to pay the tuition!
