kor_to_nola Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Hi everyone, I haven't updated much on this website since 2 years ago, but here we go. Baylor: Waitlisted Emory: Invited for In-person interviews Princeton Seminary: Accepted as of today Great to have the piece of security in mind hearing from PTS. My subfield is New Testament Studies
itsjafer Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Anyone heard back about any MA/MDiv programs yet (particularly UChicago)? I recognize the title says PhD but this is also the only post that's active in the forum, so figured this is the best place to ask.

I know that HDS does not generally send out notice of MTS/MDiv until at least March & seems like UChicago historically operates on the same timeline itsjafer and Mr. David Jay 2

Over the last ten years or so of this sub, it seems Chicago notifies rejections in early March and then acceptances begin coming out shortly after and through mid-March. Mr. David Jay and itsjafer 2

I applied to four PhD programs, all Religious Studies: UT Austin (Religions in History), Princeton (Islam subfield), UVA (Islamic Studies), and U Chicago Divinity School (Islamic Studies). I interviewed at Princeton 1/17, UT Austin 1/22, and I have an interview with Chicago scheduled for 1/28. If anyone has any questions about these interviews I'd be more than happy to share more! I haven't heard a peep from UVA... has anyone else? Updating this to let those who are curious know that I finally heard from a prof at UVA and we spoke (rather informally) for about thirty minutes over zoom yesterday. I get the impression UVA started the whole process of sifting through applicants later than other schools. Mr. David Jay and staticfog 2

I didn't get one, so I'm committing to BC and withdrawing my other applications. Best of luck to everyone!

Might be worth waiting before committing if it was your top choice, just to see. I had a friend once that thought she wasn't going to get an acceptance but was actually waitlisted. She committed to a different school, then did get accepted and withdrew her commitment, which was not fun for anybody. Just a thought, but I don't know much about Duke's ThD! Mr. David Jay 1
Pink Meerkat Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) I wonder if Duke is sending them out at different times depending on the subfield; the admissions staff told me that decisions should come out next week (I’m Biblical Studies). Waitlist for the Duke ThD is forthcoming--at least for theology; as Pink Meerkat suggested, it could vary by field but they don't interview by area and it varies year-to-year how many they take in different areas based on the candidates, placements, etc. I was told the acceptances were sent out on Monday, and they were still deciding on the waitlist. (Not all those interviewed get waitlisted; again depends on how many they're taking in each area etc.) They may send the rejections with the acceptances (next week?), but I know some schools don't send rejections until the bitter end and I feel like they did that when I applied on a whim 4-5 years ago (though my POI who was on the committee that year let me know after they made the cut, though the official rejection came much later). I was waitlisted the last two years for the Duke ThD--last year even past the deadline! (I'm guessing someone verbally committed but didn't sign the paperwork by April 15. It dragged on for a few weeks.) So I don't want to wait around; plus I was leaning towards BC for certain practical reasons--getting the STL en route to the PhD being one, which is basically required to teach at a Catholic seminary. So that will open up more opportunities. Besides all that, BC was very interested in me and my project. When I followed up with the people in Systematic Theology that interviewed me, they were very engaged and encouraging in their emails. The offer came early, and they've been actively recruiting me since then. It's a great fit for me, and they genuinely want me to come so it makes sense to commit. (I always thought I'd do a Duke ThD--it's an amazing program and the faculty are the best!--but the Lord works in mysterious ways....)

That sucks that they waitlisted you twice, but I'm glad BC supports you! That's honestly the most important thing. The institution I will 99.9% probably choose has expressed the most interest in me and my work; it's the best feeling to know you'll be well-supported and that somebody really cares! Mr. David Jay 1
TTries Posted February 13 Posted February 13 (edited) I also want to acknowledge that there is some misinformation on these forums, so I would not panic until you hear something for yourself. I've heard things from multiple sources that some things are being said on these forums are incorrect. That being said, I think it is good to temper expectations based on what we hear, but I am trying not to predetermine what my situation is without being told by the university itself. Love and hope are most important in this, and I hope everyone here can find what they are seeking Edited February 13 by TTries shishockie, Joey049870, Mr. David Jay and 2 others 5
