Hi everybody!

I got an acceptance email this evening from the University of Kansas for their sociology program! No word on funding yet, but they said the visit days are Feb 17 and 18. It's my first one of the season, and I'm very excited... biggrin.gif 1 for 1 so far! (With 5 more yet to hear...)

Let's try and keep this thread going as a running record of everyone's acceptances so we'll know where to look for good news as soon as we log on!

Anyone else have any early acceptances??

I got into UNC - Chapel Hill! I'm just so happy that I have somewhere to go next year! Now just waiting on my other 6...

Congratulations to both of you. I was going through this same thing last year, and the year before! Once you have that first acceptance, everything seems so much better

I'm accepted to UNC-Chapel Hill too! I also applied for a traineeship in their population center, but those won't be decided for a few weeks yet. Waiting to hear from 5 other programs, but not quite so anxiously now! Congratulations to everyone :)

Congrats to all accepted! Can the people accepted to UNC say a bit more about their profile? I am prospecting right now and UNC CH might be one of my top choices...

I had some pretty solid recommendations as well. Anything specific you want to know beyond this stuff?

Do you have any research experience or internships? I applied to UNC as well but haven't heard anything yet, which is probably bad. I think it was my AWFUL quant score.

I'm a bit non-traditional and I've been working full time in IT since I was 21 and dropped out of school. As a result I have a lot of experience with documentation, corporate culture, and teaching in front of large groups. I don't have any publications, but I have presented at a few conferences for both IT and soc stuff.

I've been admitted to Purdue.

Has Purdue started sending acceptances? If you dont mind, can you share your profile? Did you apply for the Dec 15th deadline?

I think they've already sent some other acceptances by now, according to the record in here. I applied to the MS program with spcialty in religion and yes I had all my materials in by Dec.15.

What type of university are you coming from? (just to weigh the GPA)

GPA in soc: 4.0

I have two semesters' experience as a research assistant, plus I had to write an honors thesis (though it ended up not being in the area of soc. I'm actually going into.) Decent rec's, one from an alumni.

For what it's worth, I went to a state school--decent but not top-tier. Some departments are nationally ranked, some aren't so great. The soc. department is strong and we've got some well-known faculty.

Congrats again to everyone posting acceptances :)

Congrats to all admitted! I applied to UNC myself but have not heard back. Thinking it was a rejection, seeing the wave of acceptances.

I did, however, receive an invitation to visit University of Notre Dame, all expenses handled by the university. Does anyone know if this is essentially an acceptance, or an interview? They did not mention the specific word "interview" in the email - only that they would like to get to know me better and so I can see what ND's department has to offer - so I'm not entirely certain what to expect. I am, however, pretty happy to begin admissions season on an optimistic note!

I got into Penn State this morning :)

Apparently they got an avalanche of applications because of the new NRC rankings and whatnot, and they're still sifting through them all...so for those of you waiting to hear back from Penn, don't assume the worst. It's probably going to take awhile for them to notify everyone.

Was this a call to "discuss the status of your application"? Because I have one of those coming up soon and I'm curious if it means an acceptance!

Yeah, that's the same thing they told me beforehand, so that's probably an acceptance! Congratulations :)

If you look at Penn in the results forum from last year, that's pretty much their MO. Or at least that's what I kept mentally repeating to myself in the 15 minutes before my phone was supposed to ring...LOL.

Yep - it was an acceptance!
