jaxzwolf Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) So-- obviously the primary reason most of us are spending so much time in this particular forum is to try and soothe frayed nerves while anxiously awaiting admissions decisions. After years of hard work, weeks or months spent assembling applications, and not a small sum of money, we're all hoping for positive outcomes, and worrying a great deal about rejection. Perhaps many of us get so wrapped up in the outcome of applications that we start associating acceptance with success and rejection with failure in life. Being admitted is, of course, a success, but we shouldn't allow admissions decisions to dictate our overall self-worth. Sometimes, though, that can seem difficult at best. This is one of my favorite videos, a bit of animation set to part of a lecture by British philosopher Alan Watts. I watched this obsessively after being rejected across the board with last year's graduate applications, and I still find a great deal of comfort in it today. I thought perhaps you all would appreciate it, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeRZKC27RtU Edited February 6, 2011 by jaxzwolf jynx, Safferz, jaxzwolf and 1 other 4
achapiro Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Nice video. It's quite true as well. I often get told by my friends that I try to rush through life, I guess that's what they mean! Thanks for sharing the vid.
gradgirlwannabe Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 On a logical level, I agree wholeheartedly; however, we have all sacrificed a great deal of time, energy, sleep, food, (possibly) relationships, and who knows what else for this. These sacrifices have made this, for me at least, an emotional endeavor, and emotions don't follow the rules of logic. BUT... thank you for the reassurance. I need to TRY to keep your words in mind.
pobaby Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Hi, thank you for your sharing. Where can I watch the video?
bee kel Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Spoken beautifully. I actually worry about this a lot. Thanks for the post

Anyways, after a pretty tough week for me it was def reassuring to watch this. Everything is going to be OK... At least I know it is going to BE and I will deal with it one way or the other
bee kel Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Awww this is so nice!!! I can't believe the guys from South Park did this? That is their names at the end no? They just produced the visuals. I don't think they even did any of the actual animation.
