  1. I posted this in the "Decisions, Decisions" board as well, but perhaps patrons of this board are better suited to help... I was accepted to Villanova without funding and Seton Hall with a likely teaching assistantship that covers tuition and provides a stipend. I know that Villanova is a much better school, but Seton Hall is a much better fit, and the funding helps. I did my undergrad at a small state university, so Villanova would be a nice leg up. I'm struggling with the thought of declining their offer. How much will the school's reputation matter when I apply for PhD programs? Does anyone have advice or input?

  3. Thanks for the info, everyone. I received an email from her today informing me that I'm on the wait-list as well. Keeping digits crossed!
  4. I saw a couple of admits posted, other than my own. Anyone want to claim them? My acceptance email didn't say anything about funding, so does anyone have information?
  5. I received an email today from the DGS of one of my prospective MA programs, asking me to come interview for a TAship. I haven't received any word on their decision, so can I assume this means I'm accepted to the program, or could it be a completely different process?
  6. Hmm... a couple more rejections posted. Condolences to those who didn't get in, much luck to those who were wait-listed, and congratulations to those accepted! ... ... ... ... What about the rest of us?
  7. I'm there too. I've only heard from 3/9 PhD programs, and 0/4 MA programs, but I'm starting to look at other options, which is heartbreaking. The reality is that even if I get in somewhere, finding a tenure-track position when I'm done is going to be incredibly difficult. I'd also like more flexibility in location, and I'm already tired of being broke. The thought of not being part of Academia is devastating, but maybe I should take a more practical route...
  8. Would you like some company? Those windows are becoming more and more enticing...
  9. It was a personal email from an advisor. I didn't mention him as a POI, but he specializes in my area of interest.
  10. Just received a rejection via e-mail. Absolutely no statistical information, but it was a very kind message.
  11. Agreed. It's been two weeks since any results were posted! Frustrating...
  12. I've heard nothing either, but according to the FAQ section on their website, notifications "are typically sent out in the last week of February." Should be soon!! Edit - I just saw a waitlist. Anyone want to claim it? I'm curious if they gave you any further info.
  13. Tonight I considered leaving my window open in case one of my schools decided to notify by owl. I live in the upper Midwest. It's February.
  14. That makes me feel a little better too. My GPA is slightly lower than average, but my GPA from the last two years and in my major are much better than average, as are my GRE scores. Crossing appropriate digits! =)
  15. I got the feeling from it that she wasn't necessarily reading a script, but had a list of things to bring up. This is the first time I've heard of a school actually calling an applicant, other than for an interview or acceptance. I spoke with one of my profs about it, and his guess is that they're reaching out to promising applicants. It doesn't make sense to me that they would call EVERY person who applied, no matter how selective they are/aren't. Did you actually speak with her, or was it a voice mail?
  16. lol... I'm pretty sure the trip would cost much more than the app fee, as I'm fairly certain they won't pay expenses. I am mystified.
  17. I posted this on the Waiting it Out board, but it might be better suited for this one... Tonight I received a voice mail message from a graduate English department "marketing assistant" about an MA program I applied to a couple weeks ago. She said the call was to see if I had any questions about the application process or grad student life there or anything like that, and she invited me to some open house thing in early March, saying they'd refund my app fee if I came. She also left her "personal" cell phone number so I could call back. I really don't think it means anything regarding a decision, as this is a marketing person and the application deadline isn't until March 1, but would they really call each applicant individually???
  18. I called back and left a message. How intriguing! She was with the graduate program for the English department. I can't imagine they would call everyone who applies...

  20. Congrats, Bee! I saw that in the past, acceptances haven't all gone out on the same day. I certainly am not holding my breath, but we still have a chance until we get that big fat REJECTED!!!
  21. Agreed. This is destroying my soul.... and my GPA (cannot focus on homework).
