I received my rejection from them last week and wrote the English Dept. today to ask for information about my application. The replier was really kind and was very familiar with my application, which she said likely would have been accepted if they had more funding (which doesn't really help me, but I guess was nice to hear). For anyone who applied to English, she said they accepted 6% of their applicant pool.

6% and waitlisted 3%: For what it's worth, I received a letter informing me of waitlist status middle of last week. Since they have a discretely limited watilist, I assume they sent out letters to most of those on it (unless they roll it along as people decide for other programs? which doesn't seem like them -- some programs do that...like some from which I'd really like to hear...but every vibe I get from UNC say they're more classy than to string people along).

After emailing Jane yesterday, I was regretfully (isn't is always such) informed that they were very sorry but I would not be attending. So therefore no more stalking this thread. Everyone over there has been wonderful through the whole process and it was the kindest rejection I've gotten, but the hardest. UNC was my top choice. I'm starting to plan as if I'm not going anywhere in the fall. Congrats to those of you in and good luck to those of you still waiting. I hope you truly appreciate how great the school is.

Good luck to everyone who applied to UNC. If you have any question and think that I could be of help, feel free to let me know.

Were all of you literature applicants, or is anyone else out there also waiting to hear back on UNC for rhet/comp?

UNC is still one of my mystery 7...I'm emailing them if I don't hear back at the end of this week.

(As a literature applicant) I finally emailed them and they, very very nicely and politely, informed me of my rejection. I'm kind of curious how long it would have taken otherwise.

I know they do rolling admissions, so I suppose I'm not too surprised I haven't heard yet. But it is somewhat disconcerting that they knew they were rejecting you and didn't notify you until you asked.

The previous DGS was simply lovely when I visited last time I did applications (for F09). She said some nice things to me when I visited, which somewhat softened the blow when I got rejected a month or so later. Glad to know the department is still very kind and polite, at least.

Update: when I wrote the grad admissions contact, she wrote, "We have in fact just made our final decisions regarding admissions." Unless she was referring to my application in particular, it sounds like the rest of their decisions will be sent out in coming days.

Offered to place me on waitlist. Hmm. I'm just dying to make a decision and find some closure.

Anyone else apply to their Comp Lit program?

UNC-CH has had real issues with a new application system, as has been referenced here by some posters. Most folks should have heard by now, as decisions were submitted to the Grad School some weeks back. However, some folks remain in limbo because of the system glitch.
