SimilarlyDifferent Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 As the title implies, I'm curious about my fellow MLIS applicants. What sort of library do you want to work in? What is your dream job, or anything else you think relevant to the topic. I posted in the other thread that I'm interested in becoming a School Library Media Specialist, failing that maybe a Youth Services librarian in a public library. I want to hear about the rest of you!
Phyl Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 (edited) I'm already attending but I'm interested in archives/special collections and academic libraries. Absolute best case scenario job for me would be an American history or women's history archive that will pay for me to get a history MA (I'd say PhD but I don't want to be too greedy ). A little preservation work would be nice too, I love a little arts and crafts. Edited February 12, 2011 by Phyl
lydibird Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I want to be a life sciences specialist at a university library or maybe a health librarian. I wouldn't discount academic libraries of any sort, though.
Weepsie Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Possibly academic or some form of governmental role. I'm more concerned about the theory I think and how information is organised. I plan on combining this with American Studies or International relations to research how information changes or is used at times of conflict so on so forth. Well that's for now anyway. I hope to have many strings to my bow. I also want to work in the National Security Archive in D.C. for a bit
theodidactus Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) anyone want to help me figure this out? I don't know what I want to do yet. I enjoy research, especially learning new things. I quickly get bored when something doesn't interest me, but if something does interest me, I can follow it for years. I am interested in far too many fields, but most of them have to do with pure science and politics. I feel like I'd be happiest doing something for the government. Academic librarianship interests me, but I feel like it requires an extreme specialization that I find a little scary. I would like to dedicate my life to a cause, not a specific field. At present, I'm thinking of finding an intersection between law and science librarianship...anyone who knows something about science librarianship, please tell me what the field is like. Krissy Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I am definitely still learning more about the field, but currently am interested in metadata cataloging and archives. I'd also be interested in a role that requires making presentations and/or training.
annieca Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Archives for me - although I'm looking into digital libraries because I am interested in making things more accessible to the public through digitization.
CrayolaBee Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I'm like you, SimilarlyDifferent - I'm interested in youth services as well. I'm not certain what age range or library type I'm going to go for (school vs public vs ???) but I know that it's what makes me the happiest.
