cicada123 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 My application page does not have any decision post either. What does this mean? I know I shouldn't, but am checking the results page nonstop. I saw that there was one rejection via website.... rushed to UVa to check my account... no news or anything. ngghghg. forget sleep
cicada123 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Wait, were you the one who posted on the results page then? Please say no. I just checked my application and saw the "rejected" note (there was a link that said, "Your decision will be available 3/2," but the link was active). Back to grading papers, now with alcohol. EDIT: ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod. I was wrong! I applied last year and clicked the link for the old application. This process is crumbling my brain. Still hitting the bottle, though.
lechatgris Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Yes, it was me--I logged into my old app. There's not decision on the Fall 2011 app yet.
t1racyjacks Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 now on the results page there's someone from Econs I think? "bullshit on the UVa admits" this is very confusing.... :S
cicada123 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 ...which means we have to wait more. Yes, it was me--I logged into my old app. There's not decision on the Fall 2011 app yet.
cicada123 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 But I am glad you didn't get rejected. Yes, it was me--I logged into my old app. There's not decision on the Fall 2011 app yet.
lechatgris Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Sorry for the freak-outs. Now it'll be like getting rejected twice, which I believe the kids these days would call "pwned." cicada123 and anonyme 2
t1racyjacks Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Yes, it was me--I logged into my old app. There's not decision on the Fall 2011 app yet. but there have been more admits than 2 already? do they have rolling admissions... how does it work
cicada123 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I'd like to know, too. But unfortunately, I don't think anyone knows. but there have been more admits than 2 already? do they have rolling admissions... how does it work
the giaour Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I'm on the inside (doing my MA here) and I don't even know. I can tell you for certain that I know at LEAST four people have been accepted, and they were not all accepted at the same time. I have no idea whether any of those people are the same people who have posted on the results board, but I don't think UVa is one of the places that does a mass notification of acceptance. At least it doesn't seem that way. But who knows!
cicada123 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Okay--that is good news. You, being on the inside, can certainly guess better than me. So, I will set this aside for the night (unless anyone makes any important discoveries) and hope that you are right. I'm on the inside (doing my MA here) and I don't even know. intextrovert Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Last year at least, it seemed really haphazard. Rejections and admittances trickled out all throughout February and March and into April. Those of us who hadn't heard finally started emailing individually by the end of March/early April, and were told we were on a (likely quite long) waitlist, apparently a ranked one. I didn't get any official notification from the department until April 16 or 17 (after I had of course accepted another offer), when I was informed I had been on a waitlist but they hadn't had enough space in the end. From what I heard, this was not a big departure from previous years. So, just a warning - you could get notified soon, or you could be in for the long haul!
cicada123 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Jeez. But I do like the illusion of hope. Last year at least, it seemed really haphazard. courtniep Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I had a nightmare last night that I was prepping my app for UVA and for some reason decided to open one of my recommender's letters. Then the panic set in and I was running around thinking, "Oh god, what did I do?" and trying to figure out how to reseal it. Then suddenly I was like wait a minute... they were submitted electronically. This is a dream. Fuck this. And woke up, so grateful. It's an omen, I'm sure of it. There's still hope. ecg1810 and abookbumble 2
cicada123 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Any news yet you guys? I have not heard anything still.
t1racyjacks Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 nothing yet either. from what the other poster said, I'm not expecting anything soon. sigh.
fall-11 Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 nothing yet either. from what the other poster said, I'm not expecting anything soon. sigh. Same here -- I think they're going to take their time.

Tybalt Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Any news, you guys? Nothing for me. I'm not too hopeful for UVA at the moment. My hopes are hinging on a spot opening up at UMD. Beyond that, I still have Rochester, Florida and UNLV that still seem possible.
fall-11 Posted February 26, 2011 Author Posted February 26, 2011 I haven't heard a peep. I'm not too hopeful because they get 500 applications or something crazy like that... but it's just such a great program.
t1racyjacks Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I haven't heard a peep. I'm not too hopeful because they get 500 applications or something crazy like that... but it's just such a great program. same here. I don't have much hope really. Sigh.
cicada123 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I'm told it could be a while before we know. All decisions have definitely not been made.
the giaour Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I'm told it could be a while before we know. All decisions have definitely not been made. Are you just hypothesizing about this? Specifically, did someone tell you that "All decisions have definitely not been made?" Because we (I'm an MA at UVa) just got an email from our DGS letting us know that there are "15 or so" admitted or "high on the waitlist" visitors coming for visiting weekend the 17th and 18th of March. Of course, all of those people could decide to go elsewhere, in which case there would need to be another round of acceptances, but it seems to me like they've definitely made some definitive decisions. Just curious about what you know! Your post seems cryptic.
cicada123 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I was told in an email that a decision had not been made either way on my application yet. Are you just hypothesizing about this?
