cheshirequeen Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 I haven't heard from Berkeley, although I've been seeing acceptances posted on the results board, but last night I got an email out of the blue from a current grad student about Berkeley's Welcome Weekend. The first 2 paragraphs are copied below: If you’re receiving this email, it’s because you’ve been admitted to Berkeley’s English PhD program. Well done! And congratulations on having the foresight to consider pursuing multi-year graduate work in a place with views of the ocean and perennially beautiful weather (yes, even in mid-February). As you’ve heard from our Director of Graduate Studies, Professor Dorothy Hale, we will be hosting a Prospective Student Welcome Weekend on the weekend of March 4-7. As this date is fast upon us, we wanted to give you an idea of the type of activities the visit will involve, as well as to request that you let us know as soon as possible if you will need housing during the weekend (more on that below). You should also feel free to be in touch with us with any questions you’d rather not ask faculty members, so please don’t hesitate to ask us anything and everything you wanted to know about Berkeley and were too afraid to ask! It's too early to call their office (I'm on the East Coast) but does this mean that I've been accepted? Or is it an unintentionally cruel mistake? I don't want to celebrate yet...

bedrich Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Yeah, I think you should call as well. It's kinda interesting - today's valentine's and we're all here reading forums and getting nervous about admits et al. If you've gotten a reject (just like I have - two already), you might feel better just listening to a recording of Contemporary Handel's 'Thou that tellest' or just listen to the soundtrack of the last five years. Good luck to everyone and happy valentine's day!
jprufrock Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) If it helps, I got the same e-mail and I did get accepted. So... based on my single data point, they're not one to make mistakes Edited February 14, 2011 by jprufrock
RockDenali Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) Perennially beautiful weather, eh . . . ? I guess I lived in a different San Francisco . . . But congrats on the acceptance!! Edited February 14, 2011 by RockDenali
cheshirequeen Posted February 14, 2011 Author Posted February 14, 2011 As an update to this post: I called the graduate office and was told by the DGS that I should have gotten my official acceptance email on Friday, and that she would make sure that the email was resent. Thanks for the congratulations, everyone!
