jellyfish89 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 (edited) Has anyone hear from Brown MPP/MPA? I haven't received any information after submitting the application in Dec. Besides, did anyone know their email address? There's nothing on their website!!!... I only received a very brief email on Jan.6 from Graduate_Admissions@brown.edu informing me that We are reviewing applications and will notify you via email once a decision has been rendered and responses to offers of admission must be received by April 15 before 10:00 a.m. EST. The information on Taubman center website is totally a mess. Edited February 17, 2011 by jellyfish89
brewsta23 Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 I just received an email acceptance that also said I received scholarship, but that specific details would be sent under another cover.
indisabelle Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 Congrats! Which program did you apply to? MPA or MPP?
UrbanWonk Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I also was given a vague statement about funding (MPP) in my acceptance...it said we'd hear more from the department later. Congrats on getting in!

Brown is the only place I'm in so far...waiting to hear from most others (America, Texas/LBJ, CMU/Heinz, NYU/Wagner, New School/Milano) Anyone a current student at Brown? Opinions, thoughts, experiences? Hi! I'm a current MPP. My whole application process was a little iffy, too, so you all aren't alone . I would definitely come to Admitted Students Day, that's what made me decide to come here after meeting other students/faculty/seeing the campus.
nclex Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 thanks for the information. i'm definitely going to attend on Friday. Hi! I'm a current MPP. hughwu Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) I'm also admitted by this program, but I can't get much information online about Taubman center. It seems to be small, and quite domestic. I really wanna learn about about the placement info about it, as the website doesn't tell. What do most of its graduates do after graduation? Providence is small, and a little bit far from big cities like DC and NYC. Is it a good program if I want to pursue a PhD degree afterwards? The rank of this program is low, and Taubman center doesn't have a Phd program. Hope you folks could share some thoughts after the campus visit day Edited March 14, 2011 by hughwu
alexeipg Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Just wanted to second hughw's request for thoughts from those who attended the admitted student's day. It's been really tough to get information on the program from Brown's staff. Does anyone have/know where I could find admissions statistics for the program, i.e. average gre scores, gpa, %admitted, etc.?
Urban Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Hi, Got accepted into the Brown MPP program with no funding. I visited the school, but not on admit day. I thought it was pretty small. Especially when compared to SIPA and HKS (my other 2 admits) 30 students/year, small size, need to go to other schools for courses I wanted - just some of the negatives. Biggest disadvantage is no funding! Might as well borrow for HKS :-). Just for reference - my GRE scores were Quant=790, Verbal=700 and previous masters GPA=3.6 and bachelors GPA=3.8 Just wanted to second hughw's request for thoughts from those who attended the admitted student's day. gabbya Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 The program is currently a one year Master's of Public Affairs degree. Courses begin in the summer. with a break for the Global Policy Experience (this year we had the choice to go to Sweden, Cambodia, or South Korea). Classes then continue in the fall and then students work at their respective consultancy positions from January-March. The consultancy can take place in Providence or really anywhere around the world; we currently have students in Europe and India, but also in Washington, DC. We wrap up core courses and electives in April and May and then students are ready to graduate. I am a current student and I've had a fantastic experience with the program! It has been wonderful to have such enthusiastic professors providing challenges in the classroom and a dedicated career counselor guiding me through the program. The program has prepared me with the technical skills and knowledge I need to continue my career, while expanding my network as I look for a new job. You can find out more details here: http://watson.brown.edu/mpa/
Ohhsojenna Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 @gabbya for Brown's MPA program, did you hear just by email after all application materials were sent (timeline?) or did you have to do an interview or anything else? What was the most challenging thing about about the MPA program? Last question, how is residency there? From what I've gathered is that Brown doesn't offer much in graduate housing. Thanks so much!
