I received following email from one of my program graduate office. Can anyone clarify, what they actually mean?

"Congratulations! The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering has completed the evaluation of your application to enter the graduate program for the Fall 2011 semester. We are pleased to advise you that your application has been forwarded to the Graduate School with our recommendation that you be admitted as a PhD (have earned a masters) distance-learning student.

As a distance-learning student, you will belong to two separate departments: ECE for your plan of study and degree requirements, and Engineering Professional Education for course registration. You should receive information from Engineering Professional Education shortly regarding registration instructions.

Upon approval by the Graduate School an official letter of admission will be uploaded to your application within 2 weeks. If you do not receive this letter, please contact us."

I think this is something you need to ask the department, unless by chance someone here is already in that program. I have no idea. Is this what you applied for? I didn't think there could be distance PhDs for something like engineering.

If you didn't apply for a distance learning program they must have made a mistake and you should ask them directly what it is all about.

Good luck! :)
