Hi,

I've applied for an AH PhD and have been accepted so far at the University of Chicago (heard Feb 1st) and Northwestern (Feb. 15th). Very excited but still waiting to hear from Princeton, Harvard and Cornell - has anyone heard anything from them? If answers have gone out and I haven't yet heard, I can take that as a no and start figuring out what moving to Chicago means for my life...

Would appreciate any info! Thanks and good luck to all!

I haven't heard from Princeton or Harvard either.

You mentioned int he other thread that you got in no where last year. I'm curious how your application varied this year from last, as you have been much more successful this year.

I am also interested in hearing about that, if you want to share.

Sure - I don't mind sharing. There are a few differences in my application. First of all I applied to far fewer schools the first round. Second, I spent the past year learning another language and taking extra classes at a local University. Third, last round I was pretty cocky and sent in as a writing sample a paper that I wrote for a literature class, thinking that it was the best example of my writing and touched upon the topics I am interested in researching in Art History -- not considering that it didn't allow the committee to see how I actually wrote about visual material. This time I sent in a new essay, more related to what I want to do. Of course, I revised all my materials this round, but grades, GRE scores, most of my letters of rec. were all the same, as was my intended research topic.

Hope this helps someone out there who just got rejected. Try again! :D

art_hist_grad - congratulations on UChicago. Did you receive an invitation to an open house/interview weekend? Yours is the first response/notification for UChicago that's been posted, and I see it was already some time ago, so I'm curious whether all acceptances have gone out already. Thank you.

I was accepted to Cornell so I'm guessing they've made their decisions. I too am waiting to hear from Harvard, and since I haven't I'm assuming that I wasn't accepted. These places don't really care about notifying their rejects, lol.

Also, art_hist_grad, were you the poster that mentioned being wait-listed at Penn? How did you find out...? I heard they weren't notifying people yet.

I received an email and a letter from them on the 15th. They may still be working on figuring out the wait-list, I really don't know. Good luck!

Seriously though, has ANYONE heard from Harvard or have an idea of their notification timeline? I got accepted to a great program w/ glorious funding; I just want to know where I stand w/ Harvard and Duke so that I can MOVE ON. If anyone has insight on either of these two programs, please put me out of my misery now. Thanks, and good luck to you all.

i don't know OFFICIALLY, but looking at last year's results, it seems like people didn't find out until march 2. don't know if that's the norm or what!

If you didn't get an invitation from Duke to go to their prospective students' weekend, that means that you are on the rejection list. They are making their final decision this Tuesday.

Hey Opemi, how do you know such detailed info? Just curious...

My friend just came back from their prospective students' weekend. It doesn't seem to be uniform across all departments, but Duke has a tendency to scope out students through these invitational weekends to see how well each applicant fits into the general community of their department. I think this speaks to their success despite being a fairly new university compared to other elite institutions.

Did anyone get any information or notice from Harvard? Or did anyone contact with their Graduate School Administration? Urge to hear any new news? Thanks.

Just got rejected from Princeton. My POI was on leave last semester so I was unable to meet with her, though I did explain in my SoP why and how I wanted to work with her. Three down, four to go.

Good luck to the rest of you.

I also got a rejection from Princeton. Three rejections so far. :)

I really think a big part of my problem is fit. I'm interested in the relationship between Christianity and modern/contemporary art and there are so few people that work in that area. I really thought Duke was my best fit but they were also my fisrt rejection. Maybe i just suck. :)

We are in the same boat then! I find medieval historiography so interesting, why don't others? I also suspect that I just suck :)

Ladies and Gents, you do not "just suck"!!! I also got my rejection from Princeton. Hello, automated system!!!

If I had to assess my application, it was also about the fit. I also did not meet anyone, because the one person who I could work with was on leave this spring.

May I also say, how WEIRD the Princeton app was. Like, once I submitted it, I was convinced it didn't send. There was no option to look things over or DL and PDF of it like most of the other applications.

Well, at least we have the closure we all were asking for... Don't lose hope!

Not true in regards to Art History at Duke. I never contacted any faculty during the application process, I did not get invited to a prospective student weekend, I have never spoken with/met anyone from the department, and today I received an email from my POI and from the graduate school notifying me that I have been accepted with funding (the details of which are forthcoming). This came as a complete shock. I think the moral is that the departments seem to be doing whatever they want this year and it's pretty pointless to try and psych out what they are doing, and when they are doing things.

What a long, strange trip this application season has been!
