alexisde Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 After reading the recent results for the Fall 2011 PhD cycle, I'm wondering who Boston College accepted into the PhD program-- or even just how many candidates they accepted. Any ideas?
athenianstranger Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I also applied to BC for theory but haven't heard anything yet. I know they rarely accept applicants directly into the PhD program; most qualified applicants are offered a place in the unfunded MA program.
Zoon Politikon Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I also have heard nothing. I called graduate admissions last week and they told me that my application was still under review and that I should expect to hear back by the end of this week. I'm really not counting on getting picked up for the PhD since--as already mentioned--nobody ever seems to get accepted. Do you have a sense of just how difficult it is to get into the MA program?
Count de Monet Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I had heard a couple of years ago from a professor that BC tends to stay in-house for PhD candidates, pulling them from the MA program.
Zoon Politikon Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Just received my decision: rejected for PhD, accepted for MA. It'll remain a real possibility.
athenianstranger Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Same result as above: rejected from PhD, admitted to MA.
alexisde Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 Same here - rejected from PhD, accepted to MA. I received the letter over the weekend and saw it today.
adela_heartless Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 got rejected last Friday, letter dated 2/14. I checked off being considered for MA as I have an MA already. should never have applied for BC.
