MPPmaestrocal Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 For those that have been admitted, any word on the scholarships or funding? Did anyone who applied to these hear results about the Javits Political Leadership Scholarship? Also for those interested and are choosing Cal, anyone want to start a facebook group?
mushroom288 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 The offer email had a paragraph saying that I hadn't received any fellowships but not to be disappointed because I could apply for a range of tutor programs etc which cover varying amounts of fees from 25-100% depending on number of hours worked. Did you apply for the Javits Political Scholarship separately? I've never heard of it... so I assume I'm not in the running.
Soapcase Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Hello everyone, Does any one know what are the odds of getting off the waitlist for GSPP? What were the admission stats last year? Also, do applicants on the waitlist (if accepted) get financial aid? Thanks!
Energizer Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 It mentioned a departmental fellowship of $5k and a text similar to what mushroom has quoted earlier. No idea about the Javits Political Leadership Scholarship. For those that have been admitted, any word on the scholarships or funding? Did anyone who applied to these hear results about the Javits Political Leadership Scholarship?

The Javits Fellowship was separate $2.5k - $5k fellowship application due on the same day as the GSPP app. It required a short form and essay. I found out about it at the last minute and just kinda threw mine together and tossed it in the mail, because why not? Here's the app. Separate question: has any american student at all been admitted by email or snail mail yet? On the results page, I'm seeing a lot of dinged americans and dinged/accepted/waitlisted internationals, but zero admitted american university students. Is it possible they're notifying american admits by snail mail and everybody else (dinged and admitted) by email? I guess that kinda makes sense.... Any lucky american admits want to pipe up and prove my theory wrong?
Nimesis Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 After a LONG time of anxious waiting, I got my acceptance packet in the mail today. Pretty excited. No funding offered but I live in the Bay Area so tuition isn't THAT bad as it is. Let me know if you have any questions.

It seems like they're doing rejections by email and sending actual mail to accepted students.

aoko Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I am also in the Bay Area and received an acceptance via snail mail today. It was postmarked March 2nd. No funding, but I'm very excited! Maybe my top choice.

That said, I think it is very good that they stopped snail mailing rejections--that's just mean.
compost&recycle Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Just got my letter. Accepted with 5K departmental fellowship. Yay! Good luck to everyone. Who is going to the Open House on April 6?
foodlover28 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 ME TOO!!! Department Fellowship 5K <3 So happy, going to eat chocolate and ice cream to celebrate now
Soapcase Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Congratulations to all those who were accepted! Perhaps in the euphoria you missed the following question: "Does any one know what are the odds of getting off the waitlist for GSPP? What were the admission stats last year? Also, do applicants on the waitlist (if accepted) get financial aid?" Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.
mushroom288 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Congrats everyone!! Perhaps we will become classmates and friends. Eurohoria - I can't help on the waitlist question. In 2010, 72 people started the MPP, total 662 applications, which works out at 11%. However, of course, the admission rate is higher than this as some people will have not have accepted their GSPP offer. They don't disclose number of offers so its not possible to know the admission stat exactly, but you can guess. Congratulations to all those who were accepted! MPPmaestrocal Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I was accepted off the wait list last year. Alas you will have to prove yourself as it will be very competitive to get admitted off the wl. Tread with care however as you don't want to be over anxious or annoying when corresponding with admissions.
RicolaAnyone Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 May I ask how you proved yourself to get off the waitlist? And congratulations for a job well-done!
StellaHaiti2 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Just wanted to say: I remember reading on this board that folks who got rejected from GSPP were later admitted to HKS and other great schools. So keep your chin up--good news could be on the way soon! Aw, thanks, for the little ray of hope! I was a little down because my first news back was rejection from GSPP.
CowboyDan Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Oy. I told myself I'd try not to obsess about this, but here I am freaking out every time I have a new email. So, for the sake of possibly (temporarily) salving my nerves: to those lucky, talented folks who got in, did any of you living stateside get notified via email, or only via USPS? What I'm gleaning from this thread is that international applicants were accepted via email, but everyone who got an email in the US was either waitlisted or rejected. Is that true, or have there been exceptions?

Is that true, or have there been exceptions? I know how you feel--i've been checking my email literally every 5 minutes. I live in the Bay Area and received my acceptance via snail mail last night. I didn't get an email notification. Mail from Berkeley to my house can take as little as 1 day to arrive, so if you are on the other side of the country you might be getting yours soon. I took a look at the dates on which people reported their admission/rejection last year and it does seem like they send out the decisions in batches (ie, they don't send out all the admissions first then all the rejections and vise versa) Edited March 4, 2011 by foodlover28
sdmpp Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 CowboyDan, thank you for your post. Everytime I get an e-mail I jump out of my skin. The waiting is killing me. CowboyDan Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Thanks for the info. Just got an email from TheWatcher@berkeley.edu. It simply read "Go outside." I did, and there was a wizened man in a druid's robe and a UC-Berkeley baseball cap waiting just outside my building's door. He had no nose and two mouths, one where his nose should have been. I wouldn't stake my life on this because the flowing robe made it hard to tell, but I could have sworn he was standing an inch or two off the ground. "Well, did I get in?" I asked him, shivering. The area around him was 10-15 degrees colder than it is in Boston today. "I don't know," said the top mouth. "Did you?" said the second mouth. Then there was a flash of blinding light and The Watcher became a flock of crows that quickly ascended and headed west -- toward Berkeley, I can only assume. When I got back to my computer there was another email from The Watcher, this one with a link to a Libyan website I had never heard of. When I went there there was a video of my family and myself (they looked normal but I, strangely enough, appeared to be 20 years older) feasting silently and voraciously on the innards of a flock of sparrows, some of which were still kicking and flapping what was left of their wings in futile, pathetic attempts to escape. We were doing this just outside what appeared to be an early-20th century textile mill. Patriots offensive lineman Logan Mankins, in full uniform and pads, stood in the distance, gazing upon the grotesque proceedings and nodding grimly but approvingly. So now I'm even more confused! Has anyone else encountered The Watcher? Of those who did and got in, did The Watcher notify you via email or in person? And does the video mean I am on the waiting list? skeedy 1
foodlover28 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Sorry, to clarify: you got snail mail from Berkeley or did you got an email? sorry, via snail mail. I just went up and edited my post so no email. yes snail mail
