Just thought I'd start a new topic for us SMFA interviewees to talk out our concerns/preparations. Big question: are you bringing/shipping physical artwork? The e.mail says it's optional, so I was wondering what everyone plans on doing.

People also seem concerned about clothing. I plan on wearing 'nice' causal clothes with newish sneakers. Pretty much what I've worn to two other interviews with no negative consequences.

Last thing, these links may help you prepare:

I'm photo, so I'm bringing a few prints of my work. I was going to try to bring some big prints, but I decided to go with size small enough so I can pass around or put up on a wall.

I'm dressing pretty normal, just adding a sport coat over my jeans and t-shirt. and kick ass boots to boost my confidence.

I don't think they expect us to dress up. we're artists.

Should we all come with a way so we can recognize each other from thegradcafe? I think it wouldn't hurt us if we were seen talking to each other all friendly like. It would take the edge off, for me at least. I see you guys less as competition and more as potential colleagues.

Anyone been notified of their interview time yet? It's already Tuesday...

No, haven't heard either... maybe they tell us when we show up.

BTW, I live in Boston, so if anyone needs some dining options or things to do options, lemmeknow.

Nope. I was starting to wonder that myself.

So this is the saddest thing ever: I practiced with my girlfriend making small talk (I think I'm more awkward thatn I really am). Every conversation devolved into talking about millionare matchmaker.

Is everyone planning on bringing a lot of new work with them?

I'm bringing prints of the work form my port (I imagine it'll be easier to talk about them that way) as long as a few older prints. My portfolio was my absolute newest work. Doing photo makes that kindda easy.

Is anyone else as stoaked as I am? Stoaked here meaning terrified? LOL

Good luck to everyone, and hopefully we'll meet each other on Saturday! :-)

Hadn't planned on it–my portfolio is all from within the past 10 months anyway. Trying to travel light!

Oh, and they said to bring a disc of work so I'm assuming you can add new work to that.

Good luck, all!

I'm bringing a few new small works on paper and my computer that has images from my portfolio. Look forward to meeting you folks and best of luck to everyone!

PM me if you want to tell me your name/#. I'm totally up for grabbing a drink/dinner after or we can do lines of Charlie Sheen in my hotel room.

I'm staying right by the school, and might be convinced to venture somewhere nearby tomorrow night.

So..I just found out I have an interview at SMFA on Tuesday! They never sent me the initial email. I'm really excited.

However.. I had trouble scheduling with work at the last minute and have to the leave the interview day early (after lunch). Does anyone think that will affect my chances of being accepted?

I'm so nervous that it will.

I'm a painter and hadn't planned on bringing any physical work with me.

IMPORTANT INFO for SMFA Interviews tomorrow, Sat March 5th:

I talked with admissions on the phone. We need to arrive at 8:15am and we will have a mandatory pre-meeting. Interviews start at 9am and will go throughout the day. We will receive a welcome packet when we arrive (230 The Fenway, Atrium when you first come in). The day will consist of tour, free museum pass, and shuttle bus to galleries. So really the day will be from 8:15am to 5pm. And then at 5pm we will have a closing reception until 7pm. Be free from 8:15am - 7pm, it will be a loooong day!

You need to bring your laptop and a cd of your portfolio (and any new work). Let admissions know whether or not you are bringing a laptop, otherwise they will have to provide one. You can bring original work in person, but the rest will be viewed on laptop. They don't project it.

I'm up for meeting other intervieweeeesss.. PM me for phone number etc. I'm staying at Best Western on Longwood Ave. Will be here til Sun afternoon. Might be up for doing something after the reception (but might be beat!).

I'm interested in going for painting/drawing....but also have an interest in installation/sculpture/combined media.
