Fellowships for MA ED programs

Can anyone give any feedback on the fellowships MA ED programs offer? Stanford did give me a fellowship for about 1/3 of the tuition and I have no idea if that is the most I should expect for a MA degree? Just trying to gauge as I figure out how to pay for the rest. Also, I have not had success finding sources for outside fellowships...any advice would be welcome!

I am in a similar situation and received an identical offer from Stanford. I had heard from others who had gone through similar programs that funding is limited and I should expect something in the neighborhood of what you received. That being said, I received a much more generous offer from Brown so I am now reassessing things. It is a difficult position because receiving the offer from Brown has totally changed my expectations in terms of funding. I am waiting to hear from one more school, and if I am admitted and offered funding I think that should give me a better idea of what is the norm. Although as I mentioned earlier, others have told me offers similar to yours are what is to be expected.

ASCAL, are you referring to Brown's Urban Education Fellows? I received my acceptance today from the grad school dean, but all it had was an ambiguous statement that I had "received financial support" from my program, but nothing more specific. I applied to the Fellows program as an MAT candidate, but I assumed that since it wasn't listed in my acceptance letter than my financial support would be something less substantive.

And I'm in the same boat as both of you; I just declined my offer from Stanford because I received a better offer from another school.

The program at Brown is the Urban Education Policy AM program. I received a similar or the same letter from the dean via email on February 18th, and then an award letter some time the next week. I like the program and the offer is great, but I also love the Stanford program so I am still going to take my time and decide between my choices.

From what I understand, a 1/3 offer for an MA program is quite generous. I also received funding from Stanford, but not quite 1/3 of my tuition and am hoping for more generous offers from some of the other institutions that have offered me admission. I am wondering if there is any tradition of "negotiating" fellowship money. Does anyone know? Is it inappropriate to tell a school you'd like to select their program, but another is offering you more money? This kind of bargaining absolutely goes on at undergraduate institutions, but I am not sure if it's accepted in the grad school world, at the master's level. Any thoughts?
