hejduk Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Have my last phone interview tomorrow! I've had a few so far, and feel quite comfortable, but tomorrow is the interview for the last program I've yet to hear an admission decision from. My other admit decisions have all been No's, so this one is extremely important. Any tips you all for really kicking some a$$ on this interview? I have a list of questions already made from other posts on Grad Cafe, but always looking for more.
hejduk Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 remember to breathe. I don't think I'll remember what that is until April 15!
rainbowworrier Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 lol possibly. But take a moment to pause and think before answering a question.
Waw Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 (edited) I second that. I've had phone interviews both for my BA and for the one PhD program I got into, and I found it very useful to remember that even though the other person/people can't see you, you're still allowed to stop and think. The silence can be a bit strange at first, but they've probably encountered it in other phone interviews. It can help if you make it clear that you're thinking, by saying something like 'let me see...' or 'Hmm.' And good luck! lol possibly. But take a moment to pause and think before answering a question. Edited March 6, 2011 by Waw
KreacherKeeper Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I do not have advice but good luck. My best advice is realize that the person on the other end does not want to berate or dislike you, s/he wants to find a reason to say you a a great guy/gal and perfect for that program. So it is not an interogation, but an opportunity for you to help this adcomm realize you're great. Good luck once again!
