quinnj Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 This is my third time applying to the same creative writing and literature ph.d program. After the first two rejections, I contacted the graduate coordinator who let me know that I was a victim of the numbers as so many applied and only so many are accepted. They encouraged me to apply again as they also mentioned that not everyone gets accepted on their first try. In the past, the acceptances were made known via phone call or email while the rejections were sent out via mail. As I have yet to hear anything, I did see a post on the results page here, that someone received a call of acceptance at the end of February, I can only assume that the third time is not a charm in my case. In my lack of patience, I emailed my person of interest who I know is extremely busy and a very high profiled person. I have yet to hear back, Was that not the right thing to do?
ugly_duckling Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Its probably not a problem as long as you were VERY courteous, it was short, and you only email him once.... maybe twice. However, you should probably save all application inquiries for the graduate coordinator first and the department head/chair second. That's how I would do it, anyway. I wouldn't worry too much- I doubt that he'll chuck your app in the trash for an email. Keep positive thoughts!! No news is good news for right now!

Here's to hoping, and best of luck to you as well!
