  1. To torture the cliche, you won't know unless you apply. You would be amazed at what can happen. You have a great profile. I got into my "long-shot grad program", and there is no reason why you wouldn't make an excellent candidate for GT's program IMO.. I know it costs a lot once you figure in transcripts and GRE scores being sent out, but hey, you get 1 shot at your PhD! Make it happen where it'll be the best fit for you. I'll be applying there in a year! Best of luck.
  2. That's terrific. Congratulations!!!!
  3. I applied to the Psychology Human Factors program. I'm glad you got a nice response from the grad coordinator. I hope you hear good news!!! Don't give up- I was bumped up off the waitlist. Long beach was my first choice too.
  4. I applied to a totally different program, but same school and have heard from the program but have not heard from the school yet. You can always contact the graduate coordinator. That's what he/she gets paid for- just remember to be polite!
  5. I don't know about the national deadline thing, but I was placed on a waitlist on March 8th and then offered acceptance by the same school like a week later. It is probably varies depending on the school, but at least some of them notify people as space becomes available. If you don't have to deposit anything to a school right away, you can always accept an offer and then withdraw if you get accepted somewhere else. This probably isn't the best practice, but it is your future.Only do this if you would really be interested in attending if nothing else works out. you still have a few days, so try not to get too worked up as there is still time and you don't need to make any decisions just yet. You need to do what is best for you- not necessarily what is easiest for the admit board. You may get a better reply from schools if you call and ask them how they fill open spaces, i.e. if they notify applicants as space becomes available or if they plan to contact all potential candidates at once- and soon. Try to be patient with whoever you speak with, but explain that the deadline is fast approaching and you have some important decisions to make. The person you end up talking to probably won't be able to tell you if you are being considered any more than any other wait listed applicant, but should definitely be able to tell you how they notify wait listed applicants of open positions. If he/she says that they inform people as space opens, at least you can make a more informed decision the closer it comes to April 15. Hope this helps... Best of Luck!!
  6. I ended up being accepted into the experimental psych MA program at CSUSM and the HF MS at Long Beach. San Marcos seemed like a great program, but I'm going to Long Beach since it is most aligned with my research. I got rejected from SDSU- they can suck it lmao jk. My rejection was actually really uneventful since I had been accepted into other programs. However, had I been rejected before I was accepted anywhere the devastation probably would have been epic. Its great that you got into UCSD!! Best of luck with SDSU!!
  7. Heard from SDSU today and...... REJECTED!!!! I got into my top choice long before I heard from your program. Alas, this is nothing more than a wasted app fee (among all the other fees incurred when applying to grad school). BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE ELSE!!!!!!
  8. Thanks. Best of luck to you, also!!
  9. I go to UNLV now and I am in the Liberal Arts college. I think they have a pretty good faculty, though I don't know much other majors besides anthro and psych. I would take a look at the faculty before you totally write UNLV off. There are a number of faculty here who have Ivy League PhDs in the Liberal Arts college. The benefit of a school like UNLV is that it wants to make a name for itself, so many departments work a little harder here than at many other universities, IMO. However, attending UNLV does kind of carry stigma/connotations.
  10. I got off a wait list. Stay positive- it does happen!!!! Best of luck.
  11. I think that 99% of what makes your degree an achievement is the work you to do get it- not so much what university its from. You can always strive to distinguish yourself as an academic no matter where you end up.
  12. It's difficult to say, but every application process is unique. Anything is possible. Not terribly helpful, I know, but best of luck.
  13. I had every intention of applying to PhD programs, but had some professors give my app an honest evaluation. They told me that I would not get into a program with the app I had. I was so crushed. I picked up and applied to Master's programs instead and have had tremendous success. A week ago, when I got acceptance from my top choice, I felt like a new person. I'm not angry anymore, I'm not frustrated anymore, I am happier now than I can remember being in a long time. I am taking 8 classes this semester and am really feeling the crunch as the semester nears its end. However, while I have an ungodly 8 weeks ahead of me, I feel super relaxed and can honestly say that I have grown as person from this horrifying experience. I am glad to see that a lot of people have been able to find peace in this freak show called "Applying to Grad School". For those applicants who haven't had things turn out as you wanted this fall, I urge you to keep trying if this is something you truly want, but don't be afraid to change directions. Sometimes it takes more than one round of apps. Had I not been accepted anywhere, I'd like to think that my time out of school would give me a chance to appreciate the things I considered secondary while being "consumed" by the app process. To torture a cliche, I can say whole-heartedly that this has been the best and absolute WORST experience of my life.
  14. Thats what mine says too. And, just like yours, its been that way for a long time. It says that it was last updated JANUARY 19th. Its a definite possibility that we've been waitlisted. However, if you look at other programs for SDSU, it sounds like they've been notified one way or another. So I guess we have a few possibilities here: SDSU Psych is lazy or way too busy or does not know how to use a computer Or we, the applicants, are: shafted or wait listed or declined or all accepted and they haven't notified us yet because they are still trying to negotiate a group rate at SeaWorld for our admittance party. Anything you want to add?
  15. So I saw this question on the results page and thought I'd bring it to the forum. Has anyone heard from SDSU for Psychology MA? There was one post in the results section, but I call BS. My apologies if that person really has been accepted, but I don't think that is correct. SDSU was the earliest deadline I had at Jan 7th. Two programs, one at Feb 1st and one at March 1st, have already responded. I know SDSU gets a ton of apps, but this is getting kind of ridiculous. Has anyone heard anything or contacted the program?
  16. Its probably not a problem as long as you were VERY courteous, it was short, and you only email him once.... maybe twice. However, you should probably save all application inquiries for the graduate coordinator first and the department head/chair second. That's how I would do it, anyway. I wouldn't worry too much- I doubt that he'll chuck your app in the trash for an email. Keep positive thoughts!! No news is good news for right now!
  17. I got an email from CSUSM and it was a FAFSA reminder. It said all "incoming students...". Made me feel depressed because I have not been admitted. However, I have not been rejected either. That makes it worse since now I keep having these pervasive thoughts that I am admitted and just haven't been notified yet. Uugggghhh. I can't wait for this nonsense to be over with. And that duplicate email about being declined admission to Stanford would've made me lose it!!! What a bummer, but don't worry, you'll get in somewhere and then Stanford can suck it. Hang in there aber_leider!!
  18. I've already posted here, but I had an epiphany and would like to withdraw my previous statement and replace it with this one. Anyone remember in Ace Ventura Pet Detective (the first one) when he finds out Lois is a man? For those that don't or haven't seen it, he just keeps repeating "NOOOO!" and pukes, and then burns his clothes and cries in the shower. I think this is exactly how my reaction will play out.
  19. Was contacted by CSUSM MA Psych department on Friday 2/25, but was neither confirmed nor denied admission.... not sure how much longer I'll have to wait and what this means for other programs. Applied on 2/1 and contacted 4 weeks later. Applied:5 Accepted:0 Rejected:0
  20. Drink and play hours and hours of xbox. Somewhere between crying and puking I'll finish up this semester's work... god knows why. I kinda got a rejection on Friday. I was contacted by the department to discuss how much I am willing to vary my research interest. After a short conversation with the department head, the conversation was ended with, "Your application will remain the under consideration drawer". I'm pretty sure that means, "We're hanging on to your app to laugh at when were feeling stressed from trying to sort through all these other applicants that don't suck". Ugh, so yeah. Friday I played through Singularity 3 times... in one sitting. Applied:5 Accepted:0 Rejected:0
