Sample of academic writing

Hi all

I have an already edited proofread draft for journal publication , on my master's thesis all of 3000 words without the refrences. The university's site asks for a sample of academic writing within 5000 words , is the sample I have of 3000 words too short , should i increase the word count ? Please advise , deadlines just a couple of days away.

One of my past english teachers told us that the length of an essay should be like a woman's skirt: long enough to cover the important parts, but short enough to keep it interesting. ha.

3000 words sounds fine. I'd worry more about the content and style than the actual word count itself.

I thought so too. My undergraduate thesis was ~3500 words, but that's because it was just an undergraduate project. However, I also know that brevity is a good thing when it comes to publishing in journals, so I didn't think to comment on the length of the OP's master's thesis in my original post.

3000 words seems like a short thesis.
