liszt85 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 i want to remind everyone, if no one has already, to save all your receipts if you're moving a considerable distance for school and you have a TA position (in other words, you are "moving for work). i got reamed last summer by outrageous gas prices for my rental truck, managed to claim it all on this year's taxes and saved a bundle. it's a simple form and does not count as an itemized deduction. What about international students? Can some such exemption be claimed on the flight ticket price? I know that wouldn't make a lot of sense but who knows.. do let me know if there's any such thing!
MaximKat Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 should't you be working full-time to qualify for this?
hhw Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 To deduct moving expenses from US income tax, the move must be more than 50 miles, and the job must be fulltime for at least 39 weeks during the 12 months after you arrive in your new location. http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc455.html http://www.irs.gov/publications/p521/index.html
