LiteratureMajor Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 It seems in many humanities programs decisions are coming later this year. One program I applied to stated that they are working to notify applicants by April 1. Since the response deadline for most graduate programs is April 15, I am a bit concerned that such late responses would put applicants in tight spots with only two weeks to make final decisions. Are late-March/early-April decisions common?
TMP Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 I would guess not quite. I think a lot of it has to do with the budget. Remember humanities aren't universities' top priority. But i do hope that you're thinking ahead of your preferences should you need to make a last-minute decision.
morningcrafter Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 I've heard alot about budget issues as well. I'm a English Lit person too and I'm still waiting to hear from four schools. According to my department, their funding committee initially said they would get back to them about figures on April 16th! Obviously that wouldn't work with the April 15th deadline, so one of our sterner faculty members had a talk with them and sped things along. Still, all this waiting has been excruciating.
