hartshorneBoy Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Are they available? Anyone know them? I can't find them on the website...
Nofia Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 The test center generally schedules them since you take them at a test center on their computers--it's not like the SAT where you go on a specific day and get crowded in a huge room with hundreds of other nervous test takers. if you go through the registration process on the ETS website you should be able to find a test center near you and then you can set up your test date. I know when I did it I just sort of picked a day that worked for me and went and took the test. you know your score for everything but the writing section immediately after completing it too, which is such a great feeling!

False. Subject test dates are set by ETS. I'm not sure if you can register (or learn the exact dates) yet, but last year one test was offered the first Saturday of October and November.
tiany Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 I just checked out online for registration of the sub test. It turned out that the registration has already been closed. Sad... I'm not really sure whether there still will be sub tests available this year. So if anyone has not registered for the general one yet, go do it NOW. Does anybody know that whether there will be any more sub test this year? Thanks!
Nofia Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 oops i read it quickly and didn't realize you were looking for subject tests, i thought you were just looking for regular gre test dates! sorry!
snowcapk Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Tiany, the registration hasn't closed for the fall tests - it hasn't even opened yet! I think last year I registered in July or August.
tiany Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Thanks a lot, snowcapk! Glad to hear that. I don't know how much a sub score can mean for the app, but I guess a good score won't hurt. Thanks again for your information!
4givn1 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I took subject test for my field since we had to take the subject GRE or the MFT for undergraduate comps. I chose to go for the paper version (I prefer and often preform better doing that than testing on computers). The paper version was offered twice during the Fall (one in Oct. and one in Nov., and I think once or twice during Spring, and once or twice during the Summer. I registered for it after my senior year started and I found out about the requirement, and took the exam during October (the earliest of all the dates so I could retake if necessary). I had no problem although I can't remember if it was at my first choice in location or not.
dans595 Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 October 18, 2008. November 08, 2008. Edit: I had the wrong November date on here, apparently.
feminist Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Re: This year's subject dates. I'm assuming that for schools that have a Dec. 1 or 15th deadline, one should be safe and go with the October testing date? Or are they usually a bit more flexible with receiving the test results?
rising_star Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 feminist, if you can do the earlier date, do it. Better not to take chances.
ampersand Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Take the GRE as early as you feel comfortable doing it. The earlier the better, obviously, because that gives you time to take it again if you don't do as well as you'd like (you have to wait a certain number of weeks in-between taking exams--I've forgotten the exact number). And if you take it early and do great, then that's one thing you can check off your to-do list.
halfpint Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 According to the ETS site ( http://www.ets.org/portal/site/ets/menu ... f95190RCRD ) the dates are: 18 October 08 November I was debating between the two myself, thinking the November date gives me a few more weeks to study but not sure if it's worth the gamble of missing deadlines. However, if you take the October test and think you didn't do well-enough, there's no way to register for the November test as its late deadline is before the October test date. I don't know if you're allowed to do stand by registration. Google doesn't seem to reveal any info on that.
