maichang Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 So those of you who've had offers, have you guys decided which school you'll be attending? I have been accepted at CMU for phd in statistics, and UMASS for phd comp sci (machine learning/computational social science). I'm waitlisted at Columbia for phd in statistics. I visited CMU and really liked everything about that school. While CMU is my top priority I'm having hard time to decide if it is the one. The only perk of going to Columbia is the opportunity to work with Andrew Gelman. I have not visited the department and don't know much about it. UMASS is also good for computer science and I'm more familiar with the school and the department and it's pretty good. I know, I want to do more stats intensive program with opportunities for interdisciplinary research, and CMU is perfect for it. Should I wait till I hear from columbia and NCSU??
Xero735 Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 If you are unsure, wait it out, you have til April 15th to make a decision.
Messed_up_thrice Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I have acceptances from U Chicago, Mizzou (App Math), Texas A&M, OSU, U Washington (App Math) and am still deciding but will most likely choose OSU. Btw, most of those are Masters acceptances.
gainer19 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I'm headed to NC State for Statistics. Anyone else?
mandehling Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 (edited) Hi, Maichang: Do you know how long is the waitlist of Columbia? I am on it too. This is the only school I could possible get in until now... So those of you who've had offers, have you guys decided which school you'll be attending? Good luck.
mandehling Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Hi, Maichang! Thank you so much for telling me that CMU is a great place, congratulations and hope you have a wonderful phd life there! Messed_up_thrice Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I'll be committing to Ohio State in the next week or so.
