catchermiscount
Time to bump the thread. The rankings, at least in theory, should be out by mid-February. Any guesses on big changes from the 1996 incarnation? Time to get catty, people.
natofone
NYU way up.
spark25
Where can you find the new rankings? Or can someone post the rankings up on the board.
catchermiscount
Where can you find the new rankings? Or can someone post the rankings up on the board. I assume they'll be up quickly once one of us currently in a political science department catches word that they got released.
driftwood
Just got a response from Charlotte Kuh, the director of the study. She says that there is no chance the ratings will be released before April 1.

Phonologist
I heard mid-March, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they didn't finish until 2012.
natofone
Hilarious. When in the world will they release these?

swr22
Quite frustrating, isn't it? Does anyone know if there are any year-on-year rankings? Someone mentioned some to me but I have yet to find it.
UndraftedFreeAgent
Quite frustrating, isn't it? Does anyone know if there are any year-on-year rankings? Someone mentioned some to me but I have yet to find it. Year-to-year rankings wouldn't really be meaningful, as journals each take a different length of time to review articles before publication. Also, articles rejected by one publication may be revised and sent to a different journal. This leads to high variability in the year-to-year productivity of a given department (as measured by articles accepted for publication). You see this a bit in the rankings presented by SUNY Stony Brook. Pooling several years also creates a larger data set, as there are only so many peer reviewed journals in which one can publish. So anyway, a difference between a 2000 to 2004 ranking and a 2005-2009 ranking would be meaningful, but one between 2007 and 2008 would not. Also, just doing a five year moving average would have most of the same problems as looking at a single year.
plisar
It is exciting that US News will be releasing new rankings on April 23... That is pretty awesome, and they know what they're doing, I'm sure...
guvmentkid
I find it highly suspect that they are releasing AFTER the 15th...I'm sure it was absolutely necessary....
