phd2be Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 What are you interested in? I'll be doing either med chem (organic synthesis based) or organic synthesis. I'd like to be a medicinal chemist in industry
Eigen Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 If you're interested in Med Chem, I'd focus on the ties to the respective medical schools. Having the ability to work with MD/PhDs at the medical school in actual drug testing has been hugely beneficial to me, and I'd imagine having that range for recommendations (as well as industry connections) would be very beneficial.

Eigen Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 (edited) No one in industry has a PhD in med chem I can think of quite a few that do offhand. Med Chem, Organic Synth, Bioorganic- all are valid options towards industry. I've even seem job listings in Pharma that *specify* a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry. Edited April 4, 2011 by Eigen

I've been advised by serveral colleagues not to do it (med chem phd), but I guess maybe other companies want it. Edited April 4, 2011 by drums7890
