jessiem Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 I've been accepted to my second choice school, given a deadline of deciding of April 15th. I haven't heard a peep from my first choice however.... what are the formalities surrounding contacting the graduate coordinator and asking when acceptances will be sent out? Should I tell them that I'm working on the timeline of another offer or just inquiry?

You don't need to say anything more than "Hi, I applied to your program, and I have not heard back from you yet. When will decision notifcations be sent?" I have done this to the top 20 schools in my field... no bad reactions, everyone understands there are time pressures. You don't need to give an explanation to them for asking. mandarin.orange 1
ANewGrad Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) I'm in a very similar situation but I have one other question: what do you do if you contact the school who hasn't gotten back to you yet (school B ) and they don't have a time frame to give you or it's after then you have to tell the school you've been accepted to (school a) wants a decision by? Is it ok to ask for an extension on school A's deadline and/or provisionally accept? I wasn't offered funding at school A but school B's records show that nearly everyone of their grad students have funding (unless they don't want it). And that's a big deal for me. I'm just not sure what to do because I want to go to grad school -somewhere- this fall but I'd like to have my options if I can. Edited April 3, 2011 by Abryant
aquellita Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 I would contact them and maybe make a case about your situation You need to know Of course, some schools are sooo stuck up that they just send you a generic "your application is still under review, we will have decision in mid April" My case: I got an acceptance from lower ranked but still awesome school and program, they invited me to recruitment days, the works so I waited for a couple of weeks to hear back from higher ranked stuck up school, they first said mid-march, now they are saying mid-april I contacted the Department and they just told me to contact grad admissions. i know I am waitlisted, but just tell me so, dont string me along Anyways, I accepted the other offer and if this stuck up school happens to accept me I will DECLINE with joy and happiness because even if I am accepted I am no second class student to be treated like this just because they think they are soo good anyways, this is my story frenzydude 1
