It looks like at least two of the three posted admissions to Minnesota are in U.S. history. What are the chances that European decisions will go out separately? Or should I just let that one go?

And for those of you keeping score at home, Indiana was the school where my personal statement was like twice the length of what was "recommended" on the application (but not on the department's website), which I freaked out about over at LJ. Moral of the story is, don't sweat it.

I also just got an admission letter from Indiana this morning, including details on the 5 year funding package. This more than makes up for UCSD on Wednesday. :) Indiana has been one of my top choices throughout the process and I'm thrilled with my appointed advisor. Good way to go into the weekend.

Congrats! Now you can make good use of the weekend by throwing a celebration party! :)

Congrats to the OSU admit who just posted!

Thanks, slawkenberguis! That was me. I got a fantastic letter from the professor I wanted to work with, and they're paying my travel expenses to visit. It's one of the rare departments that matched up well with my research interests; it's tough finding schools with faculty strong in Eastern Europe, Central Asia AND modern religious history!

Congrats on your acceptance to Indiana! :D It seems the Midwest is fairly proactive in getting out those acceptance notifications.

Dirt, lhistoire got an acceptance email from a professor for American History at OSU a few days before I got mine, so it's possible the different specializations respond at different times.

To those who were invited to the NYU prospectives weekend-- what are your subfields?

My subfield is technically South Asia but I applied under East Asia because they don't have a separate category. The advantage of NYU is its excellent faculty in this area.

Congrats back at you! I'm probably going to visit campus the first week of March. Have you been there? I grew up in Indiana so I know Bloomington and have been to the Indiana campus, but haven't made an "official" visit. Never thought I'd be back in Indiana after leaving nine years ago, but Bloomington is a great place.

Synthla!!!! Congrats, how does funding feel??? I'm sure it's amazing!

Pretty fantastic, I'll admit. The letter had a detailed breakdown... fellowship first and fifth year and a combo of fellowship and TA work second, third and fourth, which I think is pretty standard in our field. I mean it's nowhere near what I'm making at my full-time job, but the fact that anyone is willing to pay me anything to do exactly what I want to do for at least 5 years is amazing to me. (Especially in today's economy.)

Any actual communication from UCSB yet? I haven't heard anything myself and haven't seen any other results post.

Nothing much, got the auto-email today telling me that my decision was available, but that's it. I'm pretty sure I haven't been contacted because of the cover letter issue, which was only resolved this morning. So jealous of your funding by the way!!!

I grew up in Milwaukee, but the closest I've been to Indiana is Chicago. I'm looking forward to visiting--I imagine it'll be a huge culture shock after having lived in New York City for the last four years. Probably going the first or second week of March too. What's your field, if you don't mind me asking? I'm studying the Enlightenment in eighteenth-century Russia, so I'm excited about the Center for 18th Century Studies that they have there.

Also, congrats to the new JHU admit! I'm just gonna write it off, I think.
