any new Queen's University grad students

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if there are any new Queen admits out there.

I got my offer to Queen's school of graduate studies late March on eservice, which under student number had "not available at this time". I accepted the offer on the same day (it was like March 23 or something)... and to this date I have still not been given a student number.

Just wondering if other new students have received a student number. I contacted my department and they told me that the system is undergoing maintenance and I should get one ... but it's been almost a month since I accepted my offer.

I'm a new Queen's admit (!) and when I tried to apply for graduate housing I ran into the same issue. When I contacted the SGS they told me told me that they were switching over to a new system for student numbers/cards and that this part of the system (assigning new student numbers) was not working quite yet.

The woman I talked to said it might be another month or so before it is working, so don't be alarmed!

Thanks for the info loseonething, it definitely helps me feel relieved.

Are you planning on staying in the Graduate Residence? I know it's a bit more expensive, but right now it's my first choice. The lady at the residence center told me its lottery based so it doesnt matter when you apply, they just randomize a list of acceptances and rejects with all the applicants the week after applications are due. Barring that I suppose I'll look into the student's ghetto (lol).. which has the upside of being much much cheaper.

I am definitely leaning towards living in residence. This is going to be quite a long distance move for me so I don't want the hassle of buying/moving furniture that far. I've lived in residence my entire undergrad and it has been an overall good experience...plus you don't have the hassle of roommates/crazy people invading your space smile.gif

i definitely hear you. im coming from toronto, and while its not super far, bringing furniture would not really be feasible for me. in my undergrad, i was literally 50 steps away from the building with all my classes which was totally awesome.

Also got into Queen's, and also missing a student number. I spoke with the SGS and they said they expect to send out a package with more info about residence by the end of April/early May - so pretty soon I guess. I'm not living on res but I would like my student number...

Also a new Queen's grad student. Also haven't received my student number. What's strange is that I just got a letter telling me to accept my offer online- I accepted in April? Anyways, my letter also said that all my registration info would be sent to my queen's email, which obviously I can't set up until I receive a student number. Frustrating!

little_cait, i recommend you call your graduate department and get everything figured out.

It's already July... and you're expected to be there by September... so getting everything sorted right away is super important. (everything was resolved for me by beginning of May)

Goodluck.
