So after sending your acceptance of an offer, when does your "hello, you are officially one hundred thousand percent confirmed for enrollment with all of your paperwork done!" stuff begin to show up? Over the summer?

I'm a bit of a worry-wart and was reading the horror story of the guy that moved to Texas only to find out that he hadn't even been accepted, due to a paperwork screw up. Even though it's an entire 4 months until the beginning of the fall semester, I still have to do things like quit my job, move across the country, find a place to live, possibly, buy a car, etc.

I understand your worries. There are a lot at stake here!

I received emails containing what to bring (degree certificates, final transcripts, etc) and how to set up university/email account after 1 week of accepting my offer. I am still waiting for the rest of my paperwork, which they'll send via airmail. They said it may take them up to four weeks to process and send everything. My enrollment will be final once I show them my final transcripts and degree certificates

The only paperwork I've done so far is for financial aid other than confirming my acceptance via email. Then I received an email telling me to create a school email account and then register for classes, which I've done already. I also got an email from the director of my program welcoming me to the school and so on and so forth. So is there anything else to expect?

How long ago did you accept? It all happened for me very fast, mostly because a lot of it came through email. I too have to do all of those huge things that you mentioned, except buy a car, thank god. I guess anything is possible but I wouldn't worry that your acceptance is a mistake...you could always call or email to make sure they've received your confirmation..

Hrm, well as far as setting up the university email account and all that, I already did that months ago as part of the application process. I sent in my official acceptance at the end of March via email/pdf. I know that it was received (whew!) because my adviser responded with a "glad you decided to come here" email. The deadline to decide was approximately 2 weeks ago.

I'm sure I need to calm down and be patient, but the story about the guy who relocated to Texas to find out he hadn't even been admitted put my worry-wart-paperwork-screwup tendencies into overdrive. I'm figuring out how to use up my vacation time at work, when to make it my last day, when to schedule a trip out to find a place to live, how to move, etc.

I've had the emails to set up my email and I think register for classes? Haven't figured out how to do that yet. . . and officially confirmed through my school's webportal. I got an email a week or two ago saying that I'd get official paperwork the first week of May with the orientation schedule, medical records forms, etc. Maybe that's when you'll get stuff too? If you're worried, just email the DGS or secretary and ask if you are missing any paperwork and when you can expect to get it if you are missing stuff.

If you already have an adviser and they responded to your email with "glad you're coming" then I really would forget about the possibility of a mistake. So what's the story with the guy who relocated to Texas? How did he get through the whole enrollment process without actually being enrolled?

Not entirely sure, but I just heard this horror story (on gradcafe) about a guy who went all the way to Texas, then found out they had admitted him by mistake. It turned out they had rejected him.

I got an email within a week with a list of things to do before August. I've registered for classes, and I have personally spoken with my advisers, but I haven't signed any papers yet. They just told me to be on campus the week before the semester begins to sign employment papers and attend TA/RA orientation.

Yeah I haven't signed any papers either, the deadline for accepting/declining is not until May 15th, maybe they're waiting until then for the more concrete stuff.

I googled false grad school admits and there are several articles about the University of Delaware falsely admitting every single applicant that applied, these are undergrads though, the computer system sent out acceptance emails to 20,000 plus applicants, on April Fool's Day no less. The email included a link to RSVP for some campus visit and they started noticing that rejected students were on the list, it turns out that 12 of the non-accepted students RSVPed...they are so lucky it wasn't many more, but anyway, admissions noticed the mistake within a few hours and then promptly sent out the real decisions and disabled the link. Man, what a blunder, at the very least they should have refunded the students' application fees...unreal. I think my head would explode if I was one of them. But I just don't get how you can go through every step of the enrollment process without someone saying hey, this person was never accepted. I tried to find the story here but couldn't. I'm so curious though about his story.

I haven't received anything in writing apart from my offer paperwork, I think my funding package is decided over Easter and then I get an official letter in May. Enrolling for classes etc seems to be all done when I get there. I guess if you're worried send them an email asking what you should expect to receive in the post and when? For me it's pretty important - I need things in writing so I can start applying for my visa.

If you're registered on your new portal, log in and see if it tells you anything. I just did, and it says I'm cleared to register for classes, which is a load off my mind.
