singalong Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 wow ... i'm actually pretty impressed by some of the attention to detail on this board. like the thing about fellows vs. applicants. dang. we're grad students. what else would we be doing?
ss5ay Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 What happens if I accept an offer from a school that I already got in w/ funding (before knowing the NSF fellowship result), and then later find out that I got the NSF fellowship (if I got lucky)... Can I still contact my top choice schools that rejected me to reconsider my application? And if they do happen to accept me after that, what happens to the school I already accepted the offer?

blah2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 thats a lot of ifs. wait until you cross that bridge.
hardboiledegg Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Welcome Fellows --> Does everyone have both of these?
sam45 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Just to kill time while waiting for my western blot, I looked at the source code for the page we all get once we log in through fastlane. (I mean in IE: View: Source) Near the bottom is the source for our biographical information that is displayed in the right hand pane, ie, what we see as "Applicant Data". In the source code, you can see all your information, such as address, email, name etc. At the end of that source section, does it say for you "" or "", or something different? Just curious, I am already in a program, so I am relieved of the time constraints of finding out my status, though I sympathesize.... Mine says "END Fellow Stats" but I think that doesn't mean anything.
idk123 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Welcome Fellows --> Does everyone have both of these? yeah i do
blah2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I predict that one of us will log in one of these days and see status changed to "accepted" under applicant data. Before any email notification or site hack. Mass insomnia and hysteria will likely ensue as the NSF will likely send acceptances/rejections in rounds based on discipline.
blargh Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 yeah i do me too. it's in an html comment though. i don't know if it's that important.
alh126 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 me too. it's in an html comment though. i don't know if it's that important. what are you guys talking about? How can I look at this?
hardboiledegg Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 it's the html encoding. using internet explorer you can click on "Page" and then "View Source."
DorianGravy Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I have this and I didn't win it (got in earlier) do yourselves a favor and just try and forget about this cause about 90% of you are going to be really disappointed like me soon enough... How did you find out you didn't get it?
caezar86 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Yeah, if you're on a mac, you can go to the same page (the main one upon logging in) and go to the Safari tab, go to View, then View Source. There's a bunch of text. That's what everyone's talking about. Probably doesn't mean anything?
blah2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 What we really need to do is to get someone who has gotten it this year on here. And see if their log in page has changed, with a letter or accept/decline option posted.
idk123 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 but nobody's gotten it this year yet (right?) so how would that work?
noNSFforMe Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 How did you find out you didn't get it? earlier today you could log into some link that someone posted to see your review sheets they closed it up like 5 mins after i did it but at least i know... but it still sucks, i thought i had an excellent chance of at least HM, o well, life goes on
blah2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Some people have claimed to have gotten it already, based on posted results. It is possible. Like the previous poster said, 90% of us will not get it (possibly more).
t_ruth Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Some people have claimed to have gotten it already, based on posted results. It is possible. Like the previous poster said, 90% of us will not get it (possibly more). now now, this is gradcafe. We have all the premium student blends so I assume at least 30 percent (number out of you know where) on here will get it!
mtlve Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 What we really need to do is to get someone who has gotten it this year on here. And see if their log in page has changed, with a letter or accept/decline option posted. A few people only know if they have three sheets and a high percentile. No one knows if they received an award. Based on what people have said who called today, NSF does not even know who won yet! As the fastlane people have said, they probably will not know until next week. I bet there will be future incidents like the rating sheets today, so we need to keep looking for these. In the past this incidents have been very obvious and not subtle things like the source code for a page says fellow. If anyone sees one of these incidents please post immediately, since Fastlane will probably be quick to fix it like they were today. If anyone sees a copy of any of the lists, copy and paste it here immediately. NSF was probably forced to publish it a day earlier last year because the full HM list was copied online.
mathguy14 Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 As there was a request: (What we really need to do is to get someone who has gotten it this year on here. And see if their log in page has changed, with a letter or accept/decline option posted.) Using the trick from this morning (going to .../ratingsheets, clicking "forgot password," etc.), I was sent to a page with the following message: 2009 ****name***** Applicant ***application number*** Congratulations! You have been selected to receive a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) award. I could then view my 3 rating sheets via links on the side, etc etc When I try to access things now, I get the same closed message that everyone else has, and it appears that nothing is different about fastlane for me.
blah2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 thanks a lot! Hm......means we all could be wasting 2 weeks since we could have checked this morning..=). All the best and congrats!
