SubtleAmaranth Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 How do they know people's graduate institutions, for those who are currently undergraduates? I think its whatever they put when applying for the GRF. It doesn't really mean anything because they might not have gotten into that school.
deaze Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 man, rolling rejections, agh I'm holding out for one of the "other factors" awards...
e_sac Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 How do they know people's graduate institutions, for those who are currently undergraduates? You listed it on your application.
Moxie Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 It's obviously out of their hands at this point. Would you rather they just cut it off right now with no more awards? Obviously not. Though it looks like my prediction time of 8 AM today was almost close. Let the waiting game resume.
xanax.tonight Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Can people getting rejection emails post the first letters of their last names. I haven't heard anything yet, but I come at the end of the alphabet.
PSi_light Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Congrats to all who got it. Sorry to those who didn't. I'm still in limbo (which I hope is a good sign and doesn't just mean my university's email server is having issues... j/k)
SubtleAmaranth Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I got the rejection email too -- last name starts with B. Oh well. I wasn't that hopeful to begin with. I am looking forward to the rating sheets though to get some feedback. That will be much better than grad school rejections.
cosby49 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Can people getting rejection emails post the first letters of their last names. I haven't heard anything yet, but I come at the end of the alphabet. "Z" Good luck everyone!
Neurone Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I got the rejection email too -- last name starts with B. Oh well. I wasn't that hopeful to begin with. I am looking forward to the rating sheets though to get some feedback. That will be much better than grad school rejections. By the way, I love that Flight of the Conchords quote. I'm going to the bar for a few. I figure it'd make the rejection less bad if it's here when I get home.
MrGradStudent Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I think my rejection was amplified by this place. If I didn't come here often, I wouldn't feel so bad since I wasn't really that worried about funding in the first place. Now I feel slightly sad.
vice Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I didn't get it, not even an HM. I'm really shocked. Is the system really that random?
erin Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 My last name starts with W, and I got my rejection letter. It's time to drink some nasty, dirt-cheap wine to dull the pain.
SubtleAmaranth Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 By the way, I love that Flight of the Conchords quote. Heh! thanks. Such a good song...
MrGradStudent Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 My last name starts with W, and I got my rejection letter. It's time to drink some nasty, dirt-cheap wine to dull the pain. What kind? I'm a connoiseure of cheap wine.
cosby49 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 i think i did not get it because NSF does not like to fund medically-related projects and mine was pretty disease-related. I also kind of threw together my broader impacts...I guess I knew I had a strong feeling I would not get it all along.
SubtleAmaranth Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 So people who got their rejection or acceptance and are currently choosing schools, has it helped you make your decision? I didn't get the GRF so I'm pretty sure I'll be going to University of Michigan for the CSE PhD program. I probably would have gone there anyway, so I'm not too upset!
jeeves Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I was just woken up by a friend who told me I got it! Can't believe it! Now the next 5 days are going to be interesting...
MrGradStudent Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 so is anyone here still waiting? if you haven't gotten one by now, it seems like chances are that you will get HM or another award.
Neuronerd Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 disease related is kiss of death 1 no broader impacts is kiss of death 2 even if you're the next issac newton, female, african american, blind and ugly
sonymenu2 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Did those that won or got rejected all receive their emails around 1:30 AM? It seems the emails are not coming alphabetically by last name, at least. So I'm just debating whether to go to sleep or wait some more for more rejection letter.
xanax.tonight Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 sigh... still not really satisfied. I wish an "in limbo" email was coming. for those of us in limbo (if we really are), this may go on for weeks.
