slackslack Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Hi everyone. As mentioned in the title, I am basically wondering what are the criteria one is judged upon when evaluated for MPA/MA/PhD in International Relations/Poli Sci. Would an undergraduate double major in mathematics and economics disqualify one from consideration? What should be stressed? Thanks a lot!
catchermiscount Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 By IR, do you mean an academic PhD in political science with an interest in international relations, or do you mean a policy PhD with a more applied focus? If you're thinking about something that might involve an MPA, my sense is the latter. If so, there are other fora that should have better information for you. If not, just say the word and we'll all perk up and have a party and whatnot.
slackslack Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 I am thinking more policy-related degrees -- could you please point me to the appropriate forums?

Zahar Berkut Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 I'll also add that an econ major is just fine for a public policy degree.
maicondouglas Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Yes, math and economics are great backgrounds for PP degrees. Just realize that work experience is generally a more salient factor during the app process compared to most social science graduate degrees.
