university99 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Does anyone know which ipad apps are the best to download for whatever grad school purpose? Also, I'm in need of an app that lets me save pdf files from safari. Does anyone know of one?
Eigen Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Here's a thread from a week ago that's almost identical: It should help you get started. To download PDFs from Safari, get the GoodReader or Zen Reader app. With GoodReader, if you put "g" in front of the URL, it will open an embedded PDF in GoodReader, or at least it should.
lsanman Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 One that's been recommended to me is "Papers"... I don't have it for iPad though it is on my MacBook awaiting usage this fall. What I was told is that it is a great way to link together thoughts from all of the papers you've read ... you can link to an exact section of a paper that you got an idea from, etc. I don't have a lot of personal experience yet, but the quote I got from a postdoc in my UG lab is "I almost bought a Mac, simply so I could get the Papers app". A pretty high recommendation, hopefully it lives up to it. Plus, its free on the AppStore.
Eigen Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 (edited) Wait, since when is Papers free on the app store? Last I checked it was $14.99..... ::edit:: Yup, just checked... $14.99. I'll stick with Endnote, Dropbox, and some good annotation software for now. It's also worth checking out Sente if you use a Mac- it's supposed to be quite good. Edited June 20, 2011 by Eigen
neuropsych76 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I just downloaded a free app called neu.annotate. It's free and looks to be a pretty solid pdf reader/editor Also, if you look a bit deeper you can find apps that are directly related to your field. I just found a free neuroimaging app where I can extract neuroimaging files and view the 3-d representation on my IPad!! I think this would be nifty for seminars or meetings with my advisor but even if I don't use it academically, it's still super cool!
