bluejay16 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Hey, Just wanted to see what the norm is for LORs. Obviously people apply to more than 1 program, but is it too much to ask a professor to do 3 LORs (each for a different program)? Or do you ask your prof to write one LOR and then see if he or she can make a duplicate of it for your other apps? Your advice is much appreciated!
GardeningGrad Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I think it's perfectly reasonable to ask. The recommenders only have to make minor adjustments to their LOR for you for each school. Be sure to make it REALLY easy for them - include your up-to-date CV in PDF format, the school's name and program, a few sentences about why you would be a great fit for the specific program, and any pertinent links to the program website. Be up front about the deadlines for the LOR (so if someone can't write the LOR, they'll let you know) and don't hesitate to send reminders. Bon chance!
Triple Tall Cappuccino Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I agree with the above posters. I've asked my graduate professors (from my MA) and warned them that I would be applying to like 6/7 programs. They weren't surprised at all, and actually recommended that I apply to as many as I can (that fit my research needs). Good luck!
