For New Zealand, the final acceptances were approved by RSNZ on Tuesday. I would guess that if you have a tenative acceptance, it's almost certain that you will have a final acceptance for other countries.

I applied to go to Japan.

Just spoke with Carter Kimsey - she said she will be finishing up Singapore today or Monday.

Looks like I can't edit my old list any more, so here's the latest, based on your responses:

China: Announcements imminent (review completed, waiting for hosts)

Singapore: Still under review until Monday

Japan and Korea: Some announcements, possibly not concluded

Australia: Closed - If you didn't get one yet, you probably won't.

New Zealand: Closed - If you didn't get one yet, you won't.

Gosset, thanks for keeping everyone up-to-date. Did you call to check the status on your China application? Or are you just waiting on the email? Also, are you grouping Taiwan in with the China announcements?

Happy to help. This process has been so nerve-wracking, I want to save us all the agony.

I called to check the status of my app, but I won't say anything until all the chips are down...

I did not intend to lump Taiwan with China, but I haven't heard any reports from Taiwan applicants on this board yet. If anybody has received a letter regarding Taiwan, speak up!

In for Japan. First notice was on Feb 15. Yesterday received a notice to reserve a room in DC. Good luck everyone.

I'm in for Japan too. I got an email from Akiko Chiba this morning saying that when my host researcher in Japan confirms that I'm accepted to his laboratory this summer, the JSPS will send me a formal acceptance letter. Has anyone else got anything similar to report?

Wow, this is a really helpful thread! I just found this today. I applied for China (and Japan as a second choice) and I think I am slowly starting to lose my hair. Hopefully I will hear something soon!

I called today and found out I was nominated for Singapore - they said they would be sending the official emails in a few days - but you should be able to call and find out.

I got my tentative acceptance email for Singapore just a few minutes ago with instructions to reply by 5pm on Thursday. Good luck to everyone else who applied!

Just received a "tentative" offer for Korea via e-mail. According to the e-mail, "Final acceptance requires confirmation by our foreign counterpart."

Just got a tentative offer for Korea! Looking forward to a "final offer" and meeting everyone in D.C.!

Also, thanks to everyone else who has been posting--I've been stalking this site for over a week ;-)

I received a Tentative offer for Korea as well.

Hi all, for those of you planning your trip to D.C., please note this line in the e-mail:

Please hold these dates on your calendar but do NOT make travel arrangements to the Pre-Departure Orientation or host location. Once you receive final approval, NSF will send you instructions on how to book your airplane tickets at no cost to you.

Summary: Wait until you receive final approval to book your tickets; NSF will pay for the flight.

Hi Synaptein,

It is probably country dependent, but some of us (ie Japan) have already been told to book the Marriott in D.C.

I got the tentative offer for Japan and have already booked my room at the Marriott in D.C. Has anyone gotten their official confirmation yet?

I'm in the same boat dirac... waiting for the final OK.

I haven't gotten an email that says I have official confirmation on the offer, but I have been told to book a hotel in DC (which I've already done) and to fill out a direct deposit form for NSF to get the stipend just before the program starts.

The email I got from the contact at the Australian Academy of Science had a letter of invitation and she said that she would be sending along registration forms and information on opening a bank account for living expenses.

I think once you get confirmation from your host country, then it's official, but I could be wrong.

Has anybody from China heard anything yet? If I am not mistaken, emails have been sent for all countries except China, right?

A friend of mine also applied for China, and have not heard anything back yet.
