VERY bad old GRE score but if I do well on the new test, can it save me?

Basically I got below a 1000 on the GRE exam I took last year. I wanted to know if I do well on the revised GRE test, will admission officers still give me a chance even when they see my crappy old GRE score?

Typically, the answer is yes. Some grad schools will just look at the most recent scores, some will average them out, overall just some schools do through process differently. It really never hurts to ask.
