cammarp Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Anyone else try to gain admissions to chemistry programs for Fall 2009?
cammarp Posted December 24, 2008 Author Posted December 24, 2008 Where are you applying to? I am applying to Rice, Univ of Houston, and Texas A&M.
duncandam Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I heard back from 4 w/ funding (Penn State, Penn, WashU and UIUC)
cammarp Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 I got an acceptance letter from Texas A&M with funding. Still waiting on the others
UnlikelyGrad Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Another Chem Ph.D. applicant here. Wish I'd found this place earlier.
metalpizza Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Accepted to UCSD with funding last week. EDIT: Accepted into Notre Dame and USC today! (1/15/09)
duncandam Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Have anyone heard back from UC berkeley...?
psi*psi Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 No word from Berkeley (or Columbia or Georgia Tech or Northwestern)...I've heard back from UCSB and Michigan, though
duncandam Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I got accepted to Northwestern two days ago. Still waiting for Berkeley, Columbia, Harvard, MIT, Cornell and UNC... But it seems to me that I will be heading to evanston in September
psi*psi Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 duncandam: we have three schools in common--which division are you going into?
duncandam Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I'm applying for inorganic materials chemistry - nanomaterials. How about you? Which division are you going into?
Chem09 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 And to keep it going, I'm applying for theoretical chemistry, with a strong first choice of NYU.
metalpizza Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 And to keep it going, I'm applying for theoretical chemistry, with a strong first choice of NYU. me too! computational/theoretical
redherring Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I suppose I'll chime in and say I've been accepted to Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, WashU, UCSD (still waiting for others), and am going to visit Northwestern on March 27th. Anybody else going? Oh, and I'm p-chem.
duncandam Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I signed up for NW open house on 2nd of April due to the long trip to Salt Lake city for ACS conference. However, it seems to me that I may not be able to attend ACS conference due to the funding, so I may change my visiting day to 27th
psi*psi Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I'm going to the Northwestern weekend too, but not sure when. Anyone know when Berkeley is having theirs? I'm not in, but I'm hopeful, and they're my top choice so I definitely don't want any scheduling conflicts...

Anybody else going? Oh, and I'm p-chem. When are you (if) visiting UCSD? I'm going on the weekend of March 6...wish they gave us more dates than just two to pick from. I still haven't heard from Berkeley or Duke and my March is filling up rapidly...
goody12 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 so far I've heard back from 4 schools with funding (WashU, Florida, Emory, Rochester). Still waiting for many others. They didn't recieve my CHEM GRE scores until last Friday. Any ideas if this is the delay or should I not get my hopes up. GPA 3.5, 2 plus serious synthetic organic research experience
bdawg5152 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Accepted: Berkeley, Yale, Wisconsin, Michigan Any thoughts on what to wear to the recruiting visits? Thanks.
UnlikelyGrad Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Am I the only Chem applicant who hasn't heard anything yet? How depressing. As for what to wear: I recommend a button-down shirt and khakis. Anything grungier and they might get a bad first impression of you; anything nicer and they'll be afraid to let you tour their lab.
TehMatrix Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Penn State even told me the expected attire for certain events during their open house. I guess they know people may worry about it so they tell you "casual" and "dressy casual".
redherring Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Metalpizza, I forgot when I signed up for UCSD. In fact, I don't even remember if I have signed up or not. I don't live far from San Diego so I don't need an appointment to tour the campus. However, since it is still a good idea to meet professors I'll likely sign up eventually. Unlikelygrad, nice GRE scores!

Unlikelygrad, nice GRE scores! I spoke to their coordinator on the phone and he said that the rsvp is best done early even if you aren't staying at the hotel. Their visiting weekends may fill up if they have an unspoken quota.
