I might give them a call, but not expecting much either since they are probably really tight on funding. I'm international, so chances are pretty slim. I need to know so I can coordinate visits to other schools.

I got an email from berkeley.they said we can call them on the 16th to ask about the admission decision.

has anyone actually gone through with it and called? what did they say?

I'm starting to think that the only way I'll get in is if one of you goes to visit and decides not to go after all. So hurry and visit.

Berkeley started admission in late December. I wouldn't give up on it yet though... because unlike some of you I haven't heard from Columbia!

Anyone apply to Chemical Physics at Columbia? I haven't heard back, and I'm wondering if that's due to it being Chemical Physics and not just Chemistry.

I'm Physical/Materials. I love lasers and magnets.

I called Berkeley, and they said they couldn't offer me a position (sad face)... It's ok tho, this is my first rejection. Btw, I'm going to Cornell on 27th of March too.

Haha, it's funny that my friends at school call me "D". I will be at Cornell on 27th of March, but I haven't bought my ticket yet. Gonna do it soon! I think we have to do it through the airticket agent thing...

Posted

Yeah, I'm going to call them tomorrow. Any idea of who you want to meet? I'm thinking Marohn as my top choice, but I also have to go look up some of the condensed matter people who were recommended to me.

So far I have Coates as my priority. I'm going for nanomaterials, so I have to look more carefully onto it also. Is Cornell your first choice?

Posted

Not sure yet. It's one of my top three for sure. See, I never though I'd even get into Berkeley, so my top choices were thrown out of whack. Coates is also on my list, actually. My research adviser highly recommended him.

I'm interested in applying to chemistry graduate programs. I was wondering how you rank the following schools in their chemistry programs:

Northwestern

UCLA

Michigan Ann Arbor

Illinois Urbana Champagne

Washington

Southern Cal

Thanks.
