RWBG Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Well, let's see how it goes. Last year there were 9 people accepted on gradcafe; one would expect we'll get more results if it's real. Best of luck to everyone!

deleteduser0333 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 (edited) That UCLA one gave me indeed a heart attack. Congratulation to the poster? By the way what's the point in trolling here? Sorry for editing my post again. Did anyone applying for UCLA see any changes in decision status so far? Edited January 31, 2012 by dec4rhapsody
saltlakecity2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 just checked my decision status page - it says no decision yet. Anyone else? WorldMan and RWBG 1 1
saltlakecity2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Unfortunately that doesn't mean troll for sure, as the poster listed email notification from the department, and it could be that the graduate division has to okay it before the decision status changes. But let's just stay positive, call it a troll, denounce all trolls and their trolling, and quietly go about our business. Wouldn't that be nice? adaptations, edost and WorldMan 2 1
CafeAuLait12 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Another UCLA acceptance has popped up. While it is not mine (I didn't apply there), I think it looks like this is for real.
deleteduser0333 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Another UCLA acceptance has popped up. While it is not mine (I didn't apply there), I think it looks like this is for real. Hmm, now I assume unofficial rejection from UCLA.
CafeAuLait12 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I believe that it is still too early for that though. Stay positive!
RWBG Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Two things: First, the fact that there are two posts doesn't confirm with certainty that it's not a troll. It's not all that harder to post two fake acceptances. Second, even if it is real, it looks like they sent out the first round of acceptances over two days last year, and (apparently) late into the night. Moreover, they had a second round of admissions in mid-February for applicants who were waitlisted for funding. So in any event, I would not recommend you assume you've been rejected until you have been rejected. balthasar and saltlakecity2012 2
Adornopolisci2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 (edited) No change in my status either. Tomorrow may be eventful. Edited January 31, 2012 by Adornopolisci2012
bobababo Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 UCLA decisions are real. but they might get to you in a couple of days. hang on. kaykaykay 1

Also, am I missing something re: why my posts have been getting downvoted over the past few days? If I'm unknowingly really pissing you off, please PM me so I can stop doing whatever it is I'm doing. I wouldn't have brought it up, but if I'm upsetting one or more people that consistently, please tell me how and I will mend my ways. edost, RWBG, Kombucha and 2 others 5

Oh well that just adds to my stress because the stats the person posted was simply terrifying. BTW about the rep system here, isn't it strange that we can't just turn it off or at least get notified which post was neg-repped? Hmm, I am the passive-aggressive here in the forum. I apologize if this has already got on someone's nerves. Edited January 31, 2012 by dec4rhapsody
RWBG Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 UCLA decisions are real. but they might get to you in a couple of days. hang on. Cool, thanks for letting us know! In that case, it looks like things are following the same schedule as last year, which had results released on the Monday and Tuesday of the equivalent week, followed by funding-waitlisted offers two weeks later.
catchermiscount Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 For what it's worth, up until reading a few recent posts in this thread, I was not aware of the reputation system despite being a gradcafe member for something like 4-5 years. Now I know how to size all of you up at conferences. NICE. polarbear0627 1

The fact that a random guy (first post ever) gets on and says that the decisions are real doesn't change anything for me. Then again, I didn't apply to UCLA, so none of it really affects me. The fact that a random guy (first post ever) gets on and says that the decisions are real doesn't change anything for me. Disagree. First, the stats are what you would expect for a well-regarded, high-ranking program like UCLA. Second, it's pretty common for people to get accepted, think "now what?", find this site, post their results, and begin discussing their options with people in the same boat. It's much more fishy when a result is posted and no one claims it. Third, ...it looks like they sent out the first round of acceptances over two days last year, and (apparently) late into the night. More generally, for a school where decisions come from the individual POIs, not all emails will be sent at once. Acceptees will get an email when their potential advisors gets around to it. It'll probably be sometime this week, but could be at 2 am if that's when professors are working. In conclusion: I'm confident that the results are real, and I'm certain that if so, there are others who will be getting accepted in the next few days. kaykaykay 1

No; there's nothing to gain from lying on the forums. That doesn't stop some people from doing it, though. Some morons get a kick out of stirring things up or pretending to know more than they really do. EDIT: Getting two negative reputation points for being skeptical is nonsense. edost Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Hmm... I just found out there's a daily quota for the number of positive votes. I guess that's what happens when you try to save people from being in the red! These reputation points are odd.

Is this actually UCLA's confirmed MO (having POIs contact applicants)? Can the admitted applicant confirm this?
balderdash Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 Is this actually UCLA's confirmed MO (having POIs contact applicants)? Can the admitted applicant confirm this? Well, it was the case last year, and a third one just went up to that effect.
potbellypete Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 anyone applying to UConn UMass or Stony Brook?
brent09 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Penn State is making calls now, letters won't land for a week or so. Just in case anyone was interested! saltlakecity2012 1
