  1. Bears shit anywhere they want. Check please good sir.
  2. I nominate Ironheel for most likely to spend his graduate career at a sporting event.
  3. Is anyone else still waiting on UVA? It seems they made a wave of acceptances with fellowship nominations in early Feb. but its been quiet ever since. Does anyone have any news?
  4. Still haven't heard anything from Columbia, which is strange because i'm sure a rejection is on its way.
  5. I'll just ask Mitt Romney since he has some "friends who are NASCAR team owners." Not to bring nonsensical U.S. politics to this hallowed ground.
  6. I'm still here bird. And it looks like i'll be hanging around until April at least. Good to see you're not free-riding on the cathartic vibes promoted by this once robust community, not saying that anyone else is either, but I suspect there is a tendency to abandon this site once you've found a suitable offer and can begin other healthy obsessions. Where did you decide on by the way? I remember you posting about narrowing things down a little earlier.
  7. UC Irvine is definitely on the rise. South Carolina is pretty strong in IR but may be trending "even". And I have absolutely no clue on Kansas. Unfortunately history shows that the top 25 stays pretty stagnant, with the exeption of schools who improve their methods sequence and get a bump. I don't expect to see much change when the new rankings come out (whenever that is). As the future prospective inheritants of the discipline, making substantial changes in regard to the incestuous nature of the discipline's top programs is largely up to us.
  8. Calling me out! I see how it is. I expect to be waiting at least until April, Illinois is a top school to the point where they should remain in consideration for a long time i'd imagine.
  9. I agree with this sentiment. The plea is not for those with 4 offers from top 20 schools to choose without proper consideration. It's a plea to inform the "safety" school which you don't even intend to visit, that you don't intend to attend. There is a big difference.
  10. Well i'm glad you were able to avert the car accident. You have some impressive choices! Good luck!
  11. Congratulations! What type of Theory are you interested in?
  12. Still anxiously awaiting a UVA decision. No news thus far.
  13. Thanks! I'm really excited about the possibilities there. You have an impressive (and hopefully growing) list of choices, any idea where you're going yet?
  14. Dad didn't finish high school because his mother needed him to work full-time to supplement their family income. He owns a small business today. Mother recently completed a Master's degree in a health field and is a healthcare professional. No pressure. My folks let me do my thing, while thinking i'm a nut.
  15. Claiming an Illinois wait-list. Anxiously awaiting a UMass decision.
  16. It's my impression that theory is Cornell's strongest subfield (except maybe comparative-Sidney Tarrow). Cornell is a great place and they place very well.
  17. So after tomorrow, if I still have heard nothing during this cycle (my acceptance is a deferred admission), i'll officially submit to the proposition that I did, indeed, imagine applying to Ph.D. programs.
  18. Well, if you were shrunk, in this hypothetical question you wouldn't have to worry about the pragmatic problems that would come from actually being shrunk. It's a philosophical given at that point. I'd concentrate on using my shoes or some other hard object to jam the blades, THIS IS IMPERATIVE. Perhaps you could convince your captor to release you with your wit. Or perhaps you convince him/her that the blender is too dirty to safely use (think Finding Nemo and the aquarium scene.) Other than these awful ideas at 4:00am, I got nothin'.
  19. Someone posted a UVA acceptance! That's one of my top choices but I wasn't expecting to hear anything until late next week. Hmm.
  20. Good thread, i'm waiting to hear from UCSB, UMass, Rutgers, CUNY, and UVA. I know some results we're posted, and subsequently claimed from UCSB - but when I called the department they told me they were still reviewing until the end of the month. I'm assuming, based on the timing and the identifiable poster's high stats (3.9, 1500ish) that what was posted was a first round of university fellowship nominees. Good luck to all.
