Ludwig von Dracula Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 I'm a Canadian citizen attending an American school. Considering the possibilities of learning a fairly obscure language from a former USSR state during the summer months, and I'm feeling really jealous of all the funding possibilities that my American classmates seem to have (FLAS, Title VII, and that's only scratching the surface). Anybody know of something for which I can actually apply?
StrangeLight Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 (edited) nope. if you're just looking for summer funding, see if your department offers a few thousand to do summer research or language acquisition. also, the centers or institutes that offer the language training sometimes have their own internal fellowships you can apply for. but as far as i know, there's no canadian government funding for summer language training. you could apply for the SSHRC, though, which gives you up to 4 years of funding. multi-year fellowships with no requirements (such as having to take language classes every year) are awesome and will make your american colleagues jealous. don't sweat it too much. Ludwig von Dracula Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 Cool. Definitely hopping on the SSHRC bandwagon, even though they rejected me last cycle Getting 3 years of funding would still be nothing to sneeze at.
1Q84 Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 Resurrecting this: does the Canadian government really offer no overseas graduate level language training funding?
